FFXIV: How to change custom animation emotes

An updated version of my previous guide that streamlines the process and hopefully clears up some confusion about which path needs to be copied for the file redirect.

Thanks I got confused with all the branching options and i didn't want to delete everything in the folder like the music and I also couldn't find local file tab, but it was enough to push me in the right direction and give me the small important easy to miss details to help me fumble around and eventually figure it out.

it's even easier now too with yet further vfx editor upates, the penumbra directory can be directly grabbed in game for the path, you don't need the local files step (it's just Penumbra instead now) Thanks for the update though, it's so easy. Reminder folks that if your dance swap has a start action just paste that path along with the loop path onto the new pap you've made so you don't get the regular dance's start (like for ball dance).

Hello ! I found your tutorial very usefull to change animations set on emotes that I don't own. However, I encounter a problem at the very begining. When I browse for an emote (the destination emote at first), there is NO Animation tab to clic on, and I'm stuck there. Do you have any idea of what could've I done wrong at this point ? Thank you !

Opening your mod folders like that without checking names beforehand takes balls (immaculate taste btw, I don't expect you to pay much attention to mechanics on raids or trials though...)

this doesn't seem to work anymore? trying to change a mog station dance to a vanilla dance but when i get to the very end to paste the new directory...it doesnt save or update, it still has missing files EDIT: I have no idea what i did wrong, perhaps not closing out of certain tabs but i figured it out i guess...lol

Sorry if you figured it out but the thing is they "can" but not this way a more expierenced modder could replace the emote this file swap is sort of like using anamesis to where it edits diffrently that they wont be able to see. It's the same as if you adjusted your weapon placement or edited your hair to be longer or whatever, you'll see it they won't.

Everything works but for some reason the dance will no longer loop multiple times after changing the emote, is there somethin that can be done about that?

this does work so good! but now i got a problem about if a mod contain mutiple emote, should i make two and merge into one? besides, if i'm going to change to ground sit info, like when it's "groundsit 0 to groundsit 1", which emote name and path i should use?

I think you would have to modify one of the tracks on the actor tab or add a new one, you have to click on + new on an empty track and select sound (C063), and then modify the path to your .scd file

I essentially do have a guide for that. Check out my animation swap guide. The only difference is that you would use the local file tab to load in the tmb from your penumbra folder instead of just searching for the spell from the list.

Hey, sometimes when I change an emote the dance will have some sort of delay before starting. It will first execute the vanilla dance and after 1-3 seconds it starts the modded dance. Do you know how to fix that?^^

This sounds like there are two animations you need to replace: a starting animation and a looping animation. To find the name for a starting animation, it should be exactly the same as the looping one, just replace the last "loop" in the file path with "start"! Then just make sure you replace both the start and loop animations in your replaced emote with the start and loop animations of the emote that you're using to replace it

I tried using this method to mod a custom emote intended for /playdead onto "At Ease". It does work, but it reverts back to vanilla "At Ease" after a few seconds. Is there a way to remedy that ? You probably just replaced the "start" animation, try replacing the "loop"

So I did this and changed a dance to Songbird, but it starts as Songbird before changing to the new loop. Is there a way to fix this? Do I need to delete the "start" animation completely?

Ran into this too. Some dances have an intro animation before the loop. If there's a way around this, I'd love to know as well.

Yes, you'll have to replace both start and loop animations if possible. The file path for the start animation should be exactly the same as the looping file name, just with the last "loop" replaced with "start"

You have to change the Pap Editor's save location in the pap editor configuration menu. Took me 5 hours to find the solution to this, but I found it on discord.

VFXE has had a UI update, there is now a tab just called "Paths" in there you'll see both Game and Local, use Local :)

To note i believe its a UI update following the age old "if it aint broke, fix it" mantra alot of modders seem to these days lol, which means i think its now in the tab "paths" Making game paths and local a single tab.
