I'm going to make a prediction that Golbez is, in some way, the 13th's fragment of Zodiark, either he absorbed it during his attack on that moon's Watcher, or the flood of Darkness mutated that piece of Zodiark and he split off in some irreversible way. There has to be a reason why the Ascians abandoned the 13th. It would also be fitting for him to be the final boss of Endwalker. So many people were surprised at how early we fought Zodiark, but it was merely Fandaniel piloting an incomplete shell. Would be an epic send-off to fight a piece of his actual consciousness after fighting his soul (Elidibus) His current location, inside Zodiark's crater on the 13th's moon, is just way too suspicious for me. What we know about Zodiark is that he is an altruistic primal created from the prayers of the Ancients for salvation and to continue to live as they once had. Which is impossible on the 13th, with everyone deformed and constantly aether-starved. It seems from his final words that he wants to disappear since his purpose is over.

Makes sense, even though 1 half of him was destroyed in The Source, the other half (the remaining pieces in the Sources remaining Reflections) still poses as a source of horrific power.
