Also a cool detail that they added that I liked: Emet-Selch spoke about abandoning pretenses and titles in the cutscene before the fight, and then with the boss' name drop in the in-fight cutscene it simply introduces him as "Hades". No titles or pretenses.

6:33 why is no one talking about this scene? its the most pivotal scene that changes everything! We just learned that there used to be one race called the ancients, they lived in Amurot and that they had a sort of parliament called the convocation of 14 another NPC or shade of an ancient then tells us some of the names of the ancients who were in the convocation such as, Emet selch, lahabrea, Elidibus and that there are always 14 but that there are rumours one seat maybe becoming vacant and that it would be the first time ever. Now bear in mind we just learned all the ancients are sort of echos summoned by Emet selch so when they are talking about their future its our past meaning someone already left the Convocation of 14. Emet also refers to us a a husk and divided a bit like the world and the Asians. The Ascians are the convocation of 14 or whats left of them and then when we stand side by side with Ardbert Emet docent see us he sees an ancient. It seems obvious we are the 14th member of the Convocation and are essentially an Ancient/Ascian. I also bet our leaving was do with us disagreeing with giving life to zodiac and led to the summoning of Hydalen which explains why we of all people are her champion. WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS.

From what I can gather this is correct. When we are in the waiting room the big dude sees our soul and Ardberts soul as being the "same". When Hydalyn struck down Zodiark, the star was split into the source and 13 shards. Perhaps the same happened with "our" soul. That 14th Ascian got split between the worlds also.

Neo Saturos if you go to the time stamp in my original comment you can see that he sees us as an ancient. Yes there are 14 Ascians which is slightly confusing, however this expansion revealed that there are only 3 of the 14 that are whole and they are Emet selch, lahabrea and Elidibus. They mention that all the other Ascians are sundered pieces of the other members of the congregation of 14 and that when one is destroyed they simply promote another piece of their sundered souls to be Ascians, not sure how this works but it does mean that one of the 14 Ascians is likely a piece of our sundered soul as they also say that we ourselves are sundered but that we were sundered to a lesser extent and that is why we are so powerful

The implications that Emet-Selch may have known us, or a different version of us, combined with the explanations of his motives and the origin of him and the first people made me absolutely love the turns the story took. It also made me incredibly sad when we had to kill him. I'll miss you, buddy :'( I'm so excited to see what more revelations we'll get, and I really hope they don't leave us hanging.

The way he looked at you the whole journey being melancholic about his past and the ascians he saw while looking at your soul strongly indicates you are the soul of his dear friend (the ascian talking to you before meeting Emet) from back then. Half of the ascians sacrified themself to summon Zodiark however the planet was left to die. The remaining were divided between feeding Zodiark & getting back the sacrified ascians to find a solution later while the other half thought it was too dangerous & prefered to restore life summoning Hydaelin. It is quite possible that Emet's friend was on the Hydaelin side.

Imagine being one of the 7 souls that gets summoned into this Hades fight. No context, just out of the blue some guy tells you telepathically "Eon become instant, throw wide the gates!" and now you're standing in front of some demon monster next to a guy you've never met before. None of them questioned it, they accepted it as their fate and just fought him. Lore wise, it's very reaching, but I appreciate the story, regardless. It was a cool scene.

I got to this part on day 3 of EA and I’d been watching every cutscene till then, and my gosh was it worth it. The level 80 story dungeon is easily my favourite from story and music alone, the atmosphere just adds to how great it is. I also had that exact same reaction to Space, to the point I actually just left the trusts to fight while I took it all in, even G Posing a bit while they fought. The cutscenes before and after were equally as good and the final trial... It blew my mind. Rewatching it here only solidified my feelings. Of course, the moment at the end where you speak the Crystal Exarch’s name was a heartwarming moment, one where I teared up myself. Story wise and overall feel of the Expac, including music sealed it as the best expansion for me.

I have to say, Shadowbringers just completely blew me away. From the music to the landscapes, to the character to the story...just...holy shit. They were just dropping bombshells left and right, from the Ascians to the calamities, and even bits regarding the WoL themselves. Emet-Selch HAS to be one of the best written characters I have ever seen. Blizzard should take notes, that is "moral greyness" done right. And the Exarch! THE EXARCH! God damn, I nearly broke when I had the option to "call him by his name". I just cannot stop gushing about this expac at any chance possible. It's a solid 10/10 and it's only 5.0. I just cannot wait for more content.

He isn't morally grey, he's completely evil but you can feel empathy for him. We learned that he's an immortal who cannot live amongst his own because they had to sacrifice themselves. He tries to revive them all and that's awesome, but at the same time, he wants to do that by committing mass genocides. He's evil, but we can feel for him, he's still human, after all.

He even goes on to say that he doesn't see the people as actual living beings since they're merely fractured souls. Emet wants to put it all back together; hell, he even thought about letting mortals take over for him, but ultimately they proved "unworthy". It is not as stupidly simple as "he's evil" and "we're good". And that's moral ambiguity. Also gotta say, Emet is not human. He merely takes on a human appearance.

Shadowbringers was the expansion I decided to actually take time and stick out a majority of the cutscenes (duties popped mid cutscenes sometimes) and I did not regret it at all. Twas better doing the trial a 2nd time with me n' my friend in both tank roles (me a dark knight in black and him a paladin in white) whilst listening to his reactions. Holy shit it was great.

Mass hysteria. One of them heard a crazy ringing noise that made lose concentration and made them spawn a twisted Creation. Then everybody started to think they heard 'the ringing ' from the planet too and boom, End of Days.

What I believe The original race destroyed the balance between the material and the immaterial using their creation magic so to save there planet from being torn apart they sacrificed half of their race to create zodiark it stopped the destruction but it's a primal so it need to be feed by consuming life, the remaining race got tired of this and again cut there population in half to create hydealyn they fought a result split the world into the 14 fragments.

5:11 I did the EXACT SAME THING...found out the hard way I can fall off the edge. XD I just finished all this (Tempest and the rest of the msq) yesterday...my mind is still spinning. The lore and story completely overshadows (pun intended) previous expacs, and a huge nod to the writers because some of the things in the plot we saw had the foundation laid for it (or at least in small foreshadowing parts) in some previous expac stories. Also, this entire expac had me thinking about the lyrics of "Answers" so many times. Many bits of dialogue in this included some of the concepts in that song. Granted, "Answers" was all about the 7th Calamity, so it makes sense that there would be some parallels to the looming shadow of the eighth calamity contained within. Still, I get goosebumps thinking about it (especially considering how long ago "Answers" was written).

My FC was mainly grinding 80 on roulette's while I did all the side quests. They asked me why and I simply said cause I like helping people. We joked about it, but then I got to the Exarchs secret room and........ that moment when all of your side quests mean something, its no longer just for a bit of exp and gil...... Those side quests actually had meaning at that point, I've never seen an MMO do that and this might be my favorite final fantasy because of that.

This was overall the best expansion of all of them between the story the places you visit the cinematics the tears. I think this game as a whole has made me cry more than any game TV show or movie in my entire life.

If you think about it, the hero was Emet Selch. He shot Crystal exarch to stop him from needless sacrifice. He then shown WoL the truth. He knew all along that WoL in complete form was somebody he cared about. He encouraged WoL to give it all in order to save the world of the 1st by sacrificing himself.

I think I was pretty much exactly as excited about everything going on as you were - with one exception: My character's last name is Therion (and has been since I started playing in 3.0), so Therion got me squealing in excitement (I also chose Therion as my protagonist in Octopath exclusively because of his name).

SHB was amazing I loved everything but I just felt it lacked us actually becoming darkness incarnate when fighting lightwardens cause to me it just felt like I was still the warrior of light but with the moniker of “Warrior Of Darkness” when all I did was absorb the light from the lightwardens I thought that was wack af but the whole us getting pure white ecoli and being sick with little to no hope just a chance was lit tho lmao
