had a look at this and Ran in So a normal final sting No crit No direct hit with just epic echo does 15% A Direct hit does 20% A crit direct hit did 28% This is basic instinct- Moon flute- Whistle- Smack as Whistle is an 80% for final sting.. the video has a Crit for 762.8k which is probably like 35-38%

i wish you could solo it; in the quest there is no good reason you should have a party handy to deal with him

In the Duty menu it even acknowledges this, saying something like "How fortunate that you thought to bring your adventurer friends with you, because no single warrior could hope to do this alone." I know it's the game taking a jab at itself but it still didn't sit right with me; it really does feel weird how the game canonically handles trials before Shadowbringers.

Well good news, RathGames just cleared on his solo character (as Picto) a few days ago! Vid should be out soon I imagine

I never went back and optimized this and since DT released w/ lvl 100 cap, jobs besides BLU can do it. But the general idea is: 1. Get him to 41-42% 2. Auto-attack or use very weak spells - do NOT go below 40% - until he gets to the part in his rotation you see at 0:06 (knockback + stack marker) 3. Once he does the knockback, you have about 10 seconds to burn him from 40% to 0 before he goes invuln. Depending on job/gear you may need to build echo before you have the damage to do it. This was with full (50%) echo but it can be done with less.

So is the active time maneuver triggered at a certain HP percentage?

I think it's after a certain amount of time and if his HP is below a certain amount, cause I was able to get him lower than where he was in video and he didn't do sword

I did, you can solo now. Rath has a chance and i did with Sam LV 100. IL 689 my run

rath ex has been possible since endwalker, just dont hop on and kill the big guy before rath kills you, thats how i grinded scale+'s as pali
