FFXIV: The Copied Factory - Reaction

I've said the same on twitter, but I'll still say here: it's an absolute joy to see how genuinely happy you are to experience this. Unabashedly being this joyful over something you love and not being embarrassed about it is really heartwarming. Now to add something different: Hobbes is the second boss of the raid, named after Thomas Hobbes. Hobbes was an English philosopher and is considered one of the founding members of modern political philosophy. He's most famous for his book "Leviathan," in which he detailed his political beliefs which were as thus: a society cannot be secure unless at the disposal of an absolute sovereign. Members of the society come together and form a social contract, ceding some of their rights in exchange for protection from a sovereign, a ruler, who then takes control of this society. Thus, the individuals are, by extension, the authors of all decisions made by the sovereign. "He that complaineth of injury from his sovereign complaineth that whereof he himself is the author, and therefore ought not to accuse any man but himself, no nor himself of injury because to do injury to one's self is impossible." He wrote nothing about the separation of powers in government. The sovereign is to control all aspects of government, including the three major powers: civil, militant, and judicial branches. How does this relate to the boss? It's hard to say exactly. Taro didn't have as much freedom to design a fight that reflects his naming conventions for characters and enemies. However, it is interesting to point out that for this fight, and this fight alone, the alliances are split into three distinct groups, all of which have unique mechanics present on their respective platforms. In the center is Hobbes, whose arms quite literally reach out to each platform and control the pace of the fight. A single unit controlling three distinct bodies. Additionally, in the opening chapters of Leviathan, Hobbes likens the human body to a machine, and the political organization to an artificial human being. He says that the truth of his ideas can be gauged only be self-examination, by looking into our selves to adjudge our characteristic thoughts and passions, which form the basis of all human action. And what does the boss do? Analyze us to judge our parameters, our characteristics. It was testing machines to see how human-like they were physically, in reaction time, in dexterity. He also talks about the fact that there should be a "head" that decides most of the important things that the "body" does, in a political organization. And Hobbes just so happens to be, essentially, a floating head dictating the tests. Hobbes was also outspoken in his belief that human judgment is unreliable, and that we need science to balance out that insufficiency. The boss has a few lines that mention our efforts to halt and defy science, saying "How...dare...you..." when we get close to defeating him. Suffice to say, there's a LOT here that Taro managed to put in despite the restrictions given to him due to the alliance raid setup. Man's a genius.

Actually he says "how...dare...you" if one of the alliances' members are on the wrong platform (via rez) and then initiates the vacuum sequence to put them back into place. (Edit: this does in fact emphasize your point on his reaction to our efforts at trying to defy his experiment)

@@KaiKrimson56 I'm sure 2P would recognise that it was magic. Half the pod programs in Automata are just more sparkly versions of the magic powers in NieR, including the symbols they give off. The androids have simply had so long to more fully learn about and integrate the magic into themselves that it looks like just another piece of technology (sort of a reverse of that famous Arthur C. Clarke quote). So yeah, she'd see the magic they're using and be like "What sorcery is this?", but the existence of magic is nothing new to her.

@@Huaie Rolls are random numbers given range of 1-99 as a way to see who will get it. Need is priority first, Greed is second (you'll only see people greed is on job specific gear so the people that need it can get it first. This is the same for loot parties outside this) Since she got a 99, then it's pretty much hers. Which is insane since she's rolling against 24 people.

The best part to me is honestly the fact that they put in work to make this Nier content actually canon and coherent within FFXIV's world, while still being extremely Nier and letting Yoko Taro go ham as much as he wants. I thought it was going to be jarring going in, but they spun it so that I have no real problem believing this all exists in XIV's universe.

This raid was awesome. I could recognize the Goliath Biped's attacks from that first boss. But man how could they do 9S like that? He is best boi who _might_ go a little crazy now and then, but he's a good little cinnamon bun most of the time, dammit! T_T Your joy in this video is contagious. "Weird sounds"? More like cute sounds lol. It's so great seeing someone having that much love for this game. Even if no one saw your other videos, they'd know you were a fan of NieR Automata. It was super adorable lol. This honestly is my favorite game. I've kept playing it even though it gets like no views on my channel compared to the SAO stuff. I love finding new stuff. I didn't think I'd be able to do the Flooded City's Special Rank DLC arena, because it's so insane, but I became so invested in both the game and the story that I basically did it with all 3 characters (9S I had debug for the Shade Adam and Eve fight because I was only doing it for fun and not with Overclock or P/M Shield). And I can say that dropping my main file self to Lv1 and starting the story over again from chapter select has still been a HUGE blast even without the sidequests (since I did them all already). In that current "NG+" playthrough, I've learned a few things I didn't find out in my 1000+ hours of playing my first playthrough. Seeing hearing your reaction here really resonates with me, because it's how I feel about NieR Automata inside as well. All of the Drakengard games actually. Mainly NieR and Automata.

Some of my FC mates and I actually have a running list of things we're hoping either show up or at least get referenced in the next parts of the raid. So far: a fight with A2 or 2B, some kind of fight that works like Beauvoir, Emil to randomly show up, a Pod mount, Adam and Eve, and the final boss fight to be along the lines of the Automata DLC where we fight Yoshi-P and Yoko Taro.

I ran that raid 10 times in 3 days, I wanted that coffer, granted every run I did, I rolled an 89 or higher on at least one of the coffers, it wasn't until I rolled a 98 on one that I finally got it. It is a fun raid, but boy, did going for that coffer get frustrating... Definitely one of the best raids so far in FFXIV, I actually enjoyed The Copied Factory way more than the entire Return To Ivalice raid series, maybe because I've actually played and enjoyed NieR: Automata, but never played FFXII or the Final Fantasy Tactics series.

Also yes, I saw you in Clemps' Automata analysis videos. 9S is definitely best boi. Not just in character, but even his melee combat is the best in the game, and I will punt anyone across the country the way 9S punts things with his spear counterattacks if they disagree! But he's the only one I could do long drawn-out fights with against the Goliath Shade Tank, Shade Simon + Shade Father Servo, Shade KoRo-Shi, and either Shade Adam or Shade Eve (when the other is dead) in the Flooded City's DLC. A2 and 2B I had to nuke them with B-Mode/Last Stand. Even without massive melee DPS, the way 9S attacks with just his weapons allows him to control the battlefield better, and don't get me started on hacking (which I often forgot 9S had because his melee is just so good). I even took out Shade Father Servo bare-handed. Have you ever tried 9S bare-handed? It's almost as awesome as pantsless 9S. Almost. And of course he's also the best written character in this game. Due to the concert readings, him being the main baddy in this raid wasn't _super_ super surprising, but I'm still hoping it's not canon. I want 9S to be a good boi from now on :(

Self-destruct cancel and the endless strings it can create without any frame delay with 2B/A2's movesets defeat anything 9S can offer in terms of melee. Specially when you add the pod programs from which the girls benefit a lot more. I'll agree 9S is a lot easier to pick up, but better in plain combat, definitely not. He does have some really nice cancels and programs mixes that make him great, but again, nowhere near as great as what 2B and A2 can do, you can actually end fights a lot faster with them because there's no hacking mini-game to go through.

Did you see the machine lifeform head at the entrance of that area? (Which came off the door lock) Then notice it was GONE after the raid? If you look up, 2P also dodges the marx smashes in the air.

I forgot to look myself, but a friend told me the head is still there, where it rolled over to.
