The Vocalist was actually one of the guys working in the offices of the US Square Enix Branch that they had to convince to work on the track. I believe the source for this was during the Fan Fest where Stormblood was announced? It was in an interview with Michael Christopher Koji Fox (Localization Lead, who also sings many of the tracks) and Soken. There was a whole thing at a panel where they talked about how Koji ended up singing several tracks and then got Soken to sing some himself before then looking for more people still within the Square Enix team that had unrealized talent. The vocalist was very shy about singing and does not like his voice. Soken had to promise to auto-tune him... and Soken lied. This is the raw vocals with no tuning. But the guy was pretty surprised about it, but he didn't originally want to have his named credited with the performance, which is a shame.

The wildest part about Unbending Steel is that it's intended to be diagetic, halfway through the fight this huge bug man gets so excited he smashes the walls and breaks into song like the least kid friendly disney movie ever. Some of his attacks are directly lyrics from this, like Rose of Hatred (those lyrics in turn are a tie-in to the first phase's amazing string theme, "The Hand Which Holds the Rose"). The whole section is a great testament to how well they manage to make a character who only shows up for a couple of scenes tremendously memorable with music.

The vocalist for this track is Dan Inoue, at the time he was the localisation lead for FFXV, he had to be coerced into the role because he doesn't like the sound of his own voice played back, he also supplied the vocals for the track "Fiend" when facing phase 2 of Sephirot.

Don't you love serendipity like this
@ChrisMorray3 жыл бұрын
"Is this throat singing?" Probably. Ravana is the god of war of the bug-men, so my guess is that they wanted bug-like buzzing for the main vocals. Soken doesn't let things like "genre" get in the way of his creativity. He'll Frankenstein some genres together into a song that somehow fits perfectly in context, and they're always absolute bangers. As for a request of a song I personally love: Return to Oblivion. It may not have the same impact on you since it uses leitmotifs of a rather tragic character (Footsteps in the Snow and Oblivion). If you look up a lyrics video, you may be able to get a feel of how sad that character is. But the song itself is an absolute banger.

The vocals are performed by Dan Inoue, the former localization head for Square Enix's Final Fantasy XV release. He also did the vocals for the Sephirot theme. @@JessesAuditorium To add onto this, a lot of the vocals are done internally by office staff. Or used to anyway, Oblivion was sang by two localisation staff members, and the lead singer of The Primals (official ff14 band) is the head of the English localisation. Soken really loves to use internal talent, even having to persuade them that their voice is good and would work. Now days though they're bringing in a lot of professionals for the vocals. Information from PAX 2015 about unbending steel. "The idea came about to use a Japanese tenor, but he couldn’t do the Gnathic language so they used Dragonspeak. Unfortunately, that singer’s schedule was too full, so the lyrics were re-written again in English (and, fun fact, sung by the Localization lead of FFXV. I have a severe phobia of insects and arachnids. With that said, this 10 foot tall samurai scarab man is the coolest gods-damned thing ever. Extra cool factor: This song technically has a prelude at the start of the fight, that transitions into this when it progresses far enough. The prelude sounds like a waltz of sorts, set to a violin. It really elevates the experience of what is essentially an honorable duel, by having a simple opener to a more controlled theme. Then this theme kicks in - sounding like an army march and a call to arms - as we rejoice in the glory of combat!

As context for this song, the lyrics entirely describe the history and current state of the nation of Ishgard's war with the dragons. Unending war, waged strictly with the intention of fighting FOREVER (at least from the dragon's side), with the origins of the conflict lost to the men who now march off to fight. Those who fought in ages past have their legends sung today, whereas those who have died in the last several centuries did so for naught...

Unbending Steel is one of my favorite songs in the game by faaar. Not only is the singing so incredibly talented, the general composition is really great. The lyrics are SO cool for the boss, who is effectively a god of war and combat, to the point where he sees a thousand year long war happening around him as a garden fit to pick the fruits from. It's such an interesting way at describing the story of Ravana. The faded grey lyrics in the video are just the next line of singing- so in the frame you paused on, the current line is "The storm it rageth on", and the line coming up is "The bold ever fight on". There was a backing vocal track, but it's singing the same line as the lead.

What I like about this theme (but all FFXIV boss themes in general too) is that they reflect the boss's personality perfectly. Ravana is a perfect warrior, beetles in japan are usually related to warriors and armors, samurais, etc (like shogun's helmet having beetle horns) he sees the world as a big battlefield, and fighting as a sort of dance. It's reflected on the mechanics as well, blue butterflies that turn into swords when they touch the floor. The whole deep red/cool blue motif is to reflect the fires of a forge, hot-red steel turning silver. And the song encapsulates that as well. It's elegant with it's strings and harmonies, yet it has that army feel with the drums, like a march. And the voice is deep and it sings about war and battles, comparing it all to roses and songs. Freakin perfect *chef kiss*

One of the coolest parts of these fights from a gameplay perspective is that the lyrical songs aren't what starts the fights. The first parts of the fight is a far less epic song, but each boss has some big attack mechanic you have to circumvent to survive, and THEN their themes start. It's the indicator that you're about halfway through the fight, but also the boss is done holding back.

Unironically one of my favorite songs.

U want to destroy him? -.^ I was mention this one [Ravana] and a few more earlier, but i wasnt mention as one of giving "recommendation" bc was make list of 10 [lol more than 10 ^w^] . "What Angel Wakes Me" is great, but only if u get a few hints about this song bc its much more understand for people who know why we try to kill Fairy Queen/King. BTW most players trying to kill her in first 2months of realase was hear "Time to die" instead "Time wilts and Fades" :) Even when i was make it with my FC they was sing strange cover on voice discord where that one was changed in that phrase. xD [crazy time]

Playing this back when Heavensward was the current content, the music completely carried the fight. Such an incredibly powerful, potent & immersive soundtrack that made this one of the most thrilling fights for me, the music just evokes that "let's fucking do this! Come at me bro!" feeling. And Ravana's whole personality being hungry for combat & a challenge, him testing our mettle just really set up the mood for the fight so well.

I highly recommend listening to the first part of his theme as well (this is the second phase), it's really interesting (and includes more throat singing) - it's called "The Hand that Gives the Rose"

I love Ravana, and the chocobo barding is the best imo

fun fact, the main vocalist here was found last minute, the baritone they had hired felt that his english was not good enough to be used and refused to perform, so they grabbed a random sound designer they knew had the range, he HATES this piece and feels he also was a wrong choice, I disagree

Vocalist is Dan Inoue but im sure people alread said that Not sure how much you know about Genshin Impact, but La Signora Battle Theme is a long and dope one. Plenty of different genres mashed into perfection. That or Bury The Light from Devil May Cry 5

If people would of told me Soken managed to get the lead singer for Rammstein to do vocals for this song, I'd of never second guessed them on it. Dude sounds, to me at least, exactly like Till Lindemann.

It's not that every song gets more Epic than the last, just that SE has hit the upper bounds of Epic and just exist their now. When you had Uematsu as lead composer and decided to follow his retirement with Soken you can't expect differently. :D

I don't know if you'll ever get to it, but "Scars of Battle" is one of my favorite songs from the game! It's a really nice piano piece.

IMO ... you should be viewing/listening to these from their opening theme and the transition into the segments you have been listening to; to get the full effect/feel of what players are experiencing.

Since you've already listened to Emerald Weapon's theme, I highly recommend listening to Ruby Weapon's theme, the first Weapon released in the Shadowbringers Expansion! Ruby Weapon's theme is fast rock heavy on guitar and choir. Honestly one of my favorites from that expansion.

I wonder what he'll think of Sri Lakshmi's theme. VERY different, but one of my favorites.

Ah Ravana, the Primal of War. He has an insect-like Body and fights with three different battlestances: A neutral four handed swordstance, an offensive focused fire stance with two greatswords and a defensive oriented weaponless earthen stance, using energy waves.

oh! jessie... if you havnt already heard it, you should listen to Susano's song as well. Him and Ravana are like 2 halfs of the same coin :D They both Revel in battle and their songs reflect that.
