For those of you who didn't understand Daigo's lack of miracles in that match, it was due to Infiltration punishing hadoken. Daigo usually tries to get the opponent to tries to chip/force the opponent to jump with fireball. Infiltration began the match establishing that he will punish Hadoken everytime

man..i was watching this on stream and i was just like: "noooo daigo stop throwing fireballs at that range!!" Infiltration was clearly prepared for this match 140% and he showed, but daigo just seemed like he couldn't adapt, at least not until like 3rd round. By that time it seemed like daigo was getting the hang of it but it was already too late, infiltration cleanly outplayed him. I'm always rooting for daigo but goddamn infiltration played perfectly, major respect.

This is the best Gouki play I have ever seen. This is how destructive and versatile this character is when mastered at the highest level. So crazy, there is nothing daigo or any top player could do to infiltration. What a boss, def deserved to win.

Whatever Daigo tried to do, Infiltration was right on top of it, impressive/relentless performance by this Akuma.

The key thing that beat daigo was infiltration's use of FADCing through his low forward hadouken. He used that manoeuvre a lot of times to get in and deal great damage. After the first couple of times Daigo should have adapted. He should have started using low forward tatsu to break infiltrations focus attack. Perhaps the match would have been quite different if Daigo did this.

Well said. Considering Daigo's case, EVERYBODY whose willing to go the distance will study Daigo's play since everyone expects to see him on top 8. This match is just proof of that, and this time it was effective as hell.

Also, in regards to how Infiltration played throughout all of Evo 2012 and regards to his play lately in general. I must say that I have never seen a Street Fighter player be more masterful and dominant in a game since Kuroda in 3rd Strike and that if Infiltration keeps this up(which is very likely to happen) that he will easily be winning many Evos for years to come and he is pants shittingly insanely good. Bravo Infiltration, you earned every moment of this years Evo 2012 victory.

I want to express my opinion about this fight. Even though Daigo was DESTROYED, he's still one of the best players. As top commenter said, he made these events enjoyable, because of his skills. That forced other players to practice to improve their level. I'm happy to see the impact this game had around the world and how the community around it is growing every day. Have a nice day :)

True, he may not be on Daigo's level - but he definitely proved himself as an opponent to seriously respect. He not only beat one of the most recognizably great players of the game, he also went on to win the entire tournament. As for over-excited... well yeah honestly, if you had beaten one of the best in the business (a man who you probably idolize yourself) - the feeling of justifying all the time and effort you spent being good at this game WOULD make you feel really good about yourself.

In fact if you look at the match closely that's is where Infiltration gets most of his damage.In a longer set Daigo would have caught on and adapted as seen in the last round but due to the short set Daigo couldn't adapt in time. Good stuff Infiltration! Evo Champ! I feel like I was the only one rooting for him to come on top! SO glad he won ^_^!

I agree. I mean Daigo isn't used to having people go straight at him. When he played Poongko last year and Infiltration this year, there key difference, which you can see here, is Infiltration didn't do any defense except to throw him off of his offense. He went full out each time which is completely counter to all of Daigo's mind games.
@tendieman69
@tendieman69 12 жыл бұрын
Before the match begin, Infiltration spends a lot of time studying Daigo's playing style and movement. Himself during the interview also said that he was watching Daigo's replay and trying to find all the counter point. Since Infiltration deeply predict Daigo's moves, it would be nearly impossible for him to land any H-DP, since they took out the FC on H-DP.

Infiltration totally had Daigo's number here you could see with the focus-absorbs on Daigo's fireballs. At the same time i disagree with people who say the real Daigo didn't show up. For a start he lost to the no.1 player there (who made a lot of the top players look bad) and he (Daigo) finished top 5 i think. No player can turn up to Evo and expect to win it, there is also luck involved in any kind of tournament.

Did you read my comment well? I said that Mago, Fuudo, Kazunoko, Sako, etc were all top dogs at one time. After that brief spotlight, they fall down pretty hard. And there seems to be new players that seem to rise all the time. Right now its Infiltration. Having said that, there is only one player who has been at the top more than once, but has never fallen down hard, in fact he has always remained a huge threat (proven by being in top 8 at just about every SF4 tourney). His name is Daigo.
@Mican17
@Mican17 12 жыл бұрын
Mago was arguably even against Daigo in vanilla with wins over him in Japanese tournaments. Fuudo also had a fantastic record against Daigo in casuals, even beating him in a major European tournament. Infiltration has been top 3 in Evo before too. The competition has stepped up. I really don't believe Daigo has been the best overall since the first year or so.

You're wrong. Daigo just became very popular because he flew in from Japan and started owning the american players. There were numerous great players before him but they were not known for example, people in Korea. For infiltration to make his appearance and win is great for his exposure

I'm really happy and proud for the players that won, but AE finals lacked the back and forth between the players, those moments where you don't really know who's gonna take the match. Infiltration dominating like that shows how skilled he is, but he didn't give us that chance to get on the edge of our seats.
@WilliamFAlmeida

It not about the one time result- Daigo's consistency is still a sign that he's the best. You cant win them all, and you'll see many others loses catch up to them just like it does with everyone. If not doing well is finishing 5th or better in the last 4 years, then we should all be that lucky. Including Infiltration, Fuudo, JWong etc...

a best of 3 in this case means at least 6 matches and Infiltration's performance in these sets was pretty dominating besides it's always difficult to find out who's really better in a high level match. Sometimes your reads are accurate sometimes they're not. So while not objectively correct it's pretty safe to say that the winner in a few sets in a major tournament is a better player.

For your information, not only has Infiltration been playing this game since it came out but he has been on the FG scene for a long time now. He has just finally reached his peak in this game. In fact, he has never been able to defeat Daigo in a tourney till now. And as for Infiltration winning next year, its a very loong shot. I doubt he will even make top 8. Daigo is almost guaranteed to make it though, as history proves it.

And also I just have to say that any of the candidates who got top 3-4 at Evo would have been good calls to win. Infiltration playing out of his mind at Evo? Maybe, but what a better place to do it, no? It had also been clear/evident in sets at other American tournaments leading up to Evo that Infiltration was significantly improving his SF4 gameplay(probably in preparation). All the while still asserting his SFxT dominance, something that many other players weren't worried as much about doing.

Infiltration neutralized Daigo's footsies and fireballs, and in that moment it was done. Daigo tried to keep playing the same way, but it didn't work. Infiltration deserved the victory, his performance was simply amazing in every match and I really enjoyed those ultras. And for Daigo, he's still one of the best in the world. Where are Latif, Fuudo, Mago, Tokido, etc? He is always in top 5 among hundreds of excelent players.

I'm not saying that Infiltration isn't a good player because he is, but the reason he won was because he studied the way Daigo plays and came up with a good strategy to beat him. BTW ask any Japanese player who they think are the best Street Fighter players and Daigo will definately be mentioned as one. He also had the highest win rate in vanilla SF4 but now people just know Ryu too well and he's not high tier anymore.

I wonder why Daigo doesn't use a switch character? It worked out pretty well for him in the 2010 Canada Cup. He has a good Akuma despite how conservative he plays with him. I would have liked to have seen him try a mirror match or switch to Guile or Yun when he got bodied in the first match. I think Infiltration had solid strategy against Daigo's Ryu.
@SuperMerlot
@SuperMerlot 12 жыл бұрын
The problem with Daigo's Ryu is that it has been seen a lot already. Infiltration had cooked an anti-Ryu strategy that paid big time. Also, Daigo did not adjust at all. Probably was too much to ask in so short time.

This happens when you play Ryu. Have you seen the results of Evo every year since SF4's inception and seen that John Choi places in the top 25 every year? The guy doesn't even touch the game ever but can beat Mike Ross and go toe to toe with Ricky Ortiz. I attribute it to playing the same character and said character always has some type of options and is good in some way when he's not in a game where he's not overshadowed(3S).

Infiltration countered Daigo's fireball game by using Focus Cancels into dash forward and combo. Without the ability to throw out fireballs at medium range Daigo was effectively forced to play a grounded jab game where he lost miserably to Infiltration's footsies. Finally Daigo's desperation began to show as he began throwing out random uppercuts in the hopes of getting his EX cancel to Ultra out which led to his downfall.

Infiltration is better than Daigo. Infiltration beats everyone and he has won tournaments all over the world now. Daigo has solid play but Infiltration has great expression and creativity, that would go further than just solid play. Knowing Daigo has tokido as his training partner and even played Tokido about a 100 matches straight winning about 70% of the games, i would say this feat by infiltration is remarkable. Infiltration has now surpassed Tokido.

Nah infiltration is best Akuma still. It isn't like the mirror match proves everything. Infiltration has been consistently winning other tournaments since Evo. You don't even have to be an Infiltration fanboy to see how good he is. His matches against Poongko kinda show the level he's ascended to. But if anything the best player in Japan right now is probably Fuudo once again. The results of that Topanga League...just wow.

Daigo won twice(although the Yun win was cheating back then) Infiltration won in the biggest tournament where the money counts, easily too.Infiltration just has more talent.
