@Jove Boorse And you are obviously soembody who thinks that diseases like cancer went away just because of covid-1984. As Karel Sikora, one of Britain's leading oncologists pointed out at the weekend, in the month of April you normally get around 30,000 cases of cancer diagnosed in England. This April that figure was just 5,000. Add in all the other diseases not treated, all the elctive surgeries cancelled for 3 months, and you ought to see that there is a public health catstrophe on the way and it is not due to a virus.
@zacharypotter5001
@zacharypotter5001 4 жыл бұрын
@@proudhon100 That health catastrophe is already here, and it IS due to a virus. COVID-19 is the leading cause of death right now, and yet you think other deadly diseases should be a more superior priority than COVID-19? GWR transports health workers, doctors, nurses, scientists, all of them help keep it running because they ride these trains. You ought to see that COVID is the one disease we cannot afford to lose against. You're most likely a Trump supporter, or the supporter of whatever person who believes COVID-19 is fake and that everywhere should reopen. If you ignore your country's orders to stay home and you get COVID, that's your fault, not mine. #stayhomesavelives

The false economy of postponing electrification between Bristol Temple Meads and Parkway (the first stop) is plain to see in the different accelerations as this "bi-mode" Class 800 pulls out of each station: painfully laboured diesel at Temple Meads - effortlessly electric at Parkway.

Yes, they are bleedin' ugly. Structures over-engineering was one of the main reasons for GWML electrification project overspend, which led to the whole thing being 'descoped' and the government losing confidence in the rail industry to do affordable electrification. That in turn led to the bonkers decision to continue ordering new diesel or bi-mode trains - despite a policy of decarbonising transport!
@dixiedean1955
@dixiedean1955 4 жыл бұрын
The overhead was originally specified and designed to permit running at 140 mph, which in the end was found to be too ambitious. Unfortunately it was then too late to re-specify it to a lower level. Presumably though, it is something that could be thought about again in the future, particularly if ETCS is installed along the route.

A good question - and according to what I've seen, the first one comparing this phenomenon to other lines in Britain and the mainland. See fx (on YT) ICE 1 Nürnberg - München then forward past the 2 min mark (before, there's the less typical situation of a main station). And I think I could give the answer, but nobody would want to hear it, because it is anything but flattering. But I can give a hint: Look for human conditions like ignorance, group dynamics & the like. Something similar goes for the maker, BTW. Mankind is past 2020 and still hasn't learned to deal with human deficits.

No good without SOME info i.e. place names !

This is a very LAZY video. If you are going to post a railway video please take the time to add the names of the stations through which you pass for goodness sake. As a viewer we have no idea where we are !! Nothing worse that someone just dumping a video onto KZbin. What a waste of time.

Well that's like being given a present and criticising it. It would have been more polite to make a constructive suggestion regarding adding names rather than being rude.

We lag far, far behind the likes of Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, China' even Morroco is getting 150mph+ railway system, If i remember Great Britian invented the modern railway system with The Rocket, The Rainhill trails etc, and as for HS2 we will see, political inaction, cost cutting, red tape and the dreaded accounts who have no clue about railways will reduce HS2 to a slightly better service than what we have today.

It would be really nice to know a few more details about the train type. stations the train went through, speeds of the train etc.

Couldn't agree more David. I was viewing this video from Sydney and had no idea through which stations we were passing. I thought it was a "lazy" video in that the person posting the video gave us no information at all. Other videos of British rail journeys give history as well as telling you where you are. This video was just a dump unfortunately. Do you agree ?

Only 1 min 15 s. to traverse Box Tunnel ( 1.8 miles long) but a 100 men had to die to make it with candles and explosives. Could have gone around the hill , I suppose

I know this is a bit of an odd question but I’d appreciate if someone could answer. After the driver arrives at Paddington, Would he take a 2-3 hour break or just go to the other end of the train and get ready for a return trip to Bristol?
