FHP Trooper Pursues Erratic Driver in Dodge Charger

On September 23, 2023, an FHP Trooper patrolling in Lee County, Florida, observed a red Dodge Charger with a Florida license plate exiting the "Romance Night Club" parking lot, cutting dangerously through traffic, and turning without stopping at a red light. The trooper attempted to pull over the vehicle by activating his patrol car's emergency lights and sirens, but the driver did not comply and failed to stop.

The trooper said, “she can pick it up anytime.” If he had said, “ she can pick it up anytime, after impoundment and processing.” Perhaps the kid would have understood more easily. But, I don’t personally feel like the trooper is obligated at that point to be that explicit. The car doesn’t belong to the kid, therefore it’s no longer any of his business.

A backseat transport without a cage requires an additional officer in the back seat with his firearm side away from the prisoner or I have used two sets of handcuffs on a prisoner which gives a little more protection should he escape from one pair. A set of belly chains could also work if a black box was used over the cuffs.

That’s a real shame. When I was in the academy they showed us a dashcam of a Texas officer who pulled over a car w 3 drug runners. Officer’s partner drove past and waited at a gas station for a meet. The first officer was overpowered and killed w his own weapon. Vowed never to pass the opportunity to stop and back up another officer even if from an outside agency. Even if just to say hello.
