Loved this video ! Teaching the balance of decorating things on shelves but then you went that extra mile by sharing the most heart touched addition to your room ! I purchased the wall sconces for my good friend from Amazon. They were $13 for 2. I admire you for putting a tribute to your father in your office. I didn’t have a picture I liked of my father in law so I purchased a colored seed catalog from where he worked dated 1943. It cost $40 at an antique store. The 30 page catalog fit in a frame exactly. It looks amazing in my wall gallery. I have several items in my home that remind me of my family, even a large hand drawn colorful map of Iowa. Thank you for sharing how to style a shelf. I know I could do it now. I’d just go shopping in my house or decorating closet. My Christmas tree even tells the story of our life just like my home. It’s very comfortable. Your office makeover looks amazing! I love that you placed your dad's guitar and framed a favorite song that your dad used to play for you and your sister on the wall of your office, and that you sing the song for your children. It's a wonderful way to always have your dad near you. I am the same as you...I have a hard time seeing photos of my dad, too, who passed away in 2016. I have a magnetic photo of my dad playing with his cat Chessie on the front of my fridge. He was laughing in the photo, so it makes me happy knowing he was enjoying playing with his cat.❤

The mementos of your Dad are perfect and beautiful. ❤ I am the same, I’m not ready to have photos up of my parents but I do have many special things of theirs around my house. The candle sconces are a brilliant adaptation! I have seen that exact set of candle holders at the thrift store a few times but wasn’t into them on the bar and I prefer taper candles. Next time they come up I may have to grab them. Did you screw the eye hooks into studs or are the holders light enough to hang anywhere along the drywall?

Great Makeover! I find, when using "Place Holders" in our home, for light fixtures, small furnishings, etc... it ends up that those items never get replaced! So when we built the current house that we are in, and lighting was a huge thing to figure out, the hubs said, oh, just get whatever for now and we can change it out later on! Well, I know how that goes...so I made sure I went out, found something I could live with, knowing it would most likely end up staying!

It's beautiful, and you've done an expert job, as always, and I liked the explanation on styling the shelves. You didn't show us "after" shots, though, of the room. Even tho it's beautiful, I preferred/ LOVED that gorgeous blue. Could it be used on an accent wall so the room isn't dark? Also, altho everything is beautiful, there's little function. My office needs drawers for pens, pencils, rulers, staplers, envelopes, etc. Larger items include files, 3-ring binders, computer, printer, printer paper, other electronics and their cords, in/out boxes, shredder, books, and so on. Ie: where and how do you store your functional items and equipment? I need function first, then if there's extra room, then we can talk decor. Your decorating skills are amazing, but there's more than to living in a house than just having it look pretty. That's your house --- where do you put those things that i mentioned? Thx.

Love your channel. I understand using bookshelves as display spaces for décor. My concern is for households like mine who have hundreds of books to store/display on bookcases--it seems that more and more people are only using bookcases as points of display and not for actual books they read and use routinely. I volunteer in the community teaching healthy cooking schools and lifestyle medicine classes so I have over 100 cookbooks and references for health and wellness, and I have hundreds of books that I use for work and my hobbies. And my children have hundreds of books that they collect and curate on their interests. (y es, we use Kindle and online ebooks, etc, but these will never replace all of our physical books.) I would love any suggestions/ideas?
