This is the most common diesel engine used in Indian cars. It is a 1.3L engine made by Fiat. It is been used in many Suzuki and Tata cars. Even Chevrolet models use it. Very reliable, affordable and durable engine, It won the International Engine of the Year award in 2005.

Many reason for success of 1.3L engine is mainly because of Fiat and Maruti can't produce their own in house diesel engine.Though they tried with 1.5L they shelved it.

The reason is Maruti uses 4 cylinder and tata uses 3 cylinder engine. 4 cylinder consumes more and 3 cylinder consumes less fuel. Hope you got the point.
