Here's the next part and close to the last part of actual fiberglass damage repairs on the Broken Pilot House. This damage appears to only be some small cracks, but in this video you will see once you grind some damage down you sometimes find you will have a hole in your boat afterwards. DO NOT LET THIS SCARE YOU! This is a very simple fix and I purposely made this video long to demonstrate how fast it really is to repair fiberglass damage to a boat. Now keep in mind there is still some additional things left to do. I will follow up this video with a how to fair the fiberglass out and get it ready for paint. Next up is the pulpit, which needs to be recored and redone do to a missing section of fiberglass.
As always, Thanks for watching this video!

Strip of marine ply; sub-grade lumber; or, teak placed in that channel/fiberglassed in place then topped with mesh & resin.

i was taught using a smaller pc first then each layer after that is slightly larger. this way each layer is bonded to the boat. by using a large pc first and its adhesion fails, then the entire patch falls off.

Ive heard of it both ways I used this method since I didnt use a backer to support the glass bigger piece so when it sagged it didnt fall through.

Holding the rail, I would epoxy a backing piece of marine ply under that glass for a bit more strength.

Should have hot glued some paint stir sticks to plug the hole before you glass it up to prevent the glass from sagging
@KnottsFishing
@KnottsFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Yea I thought about that and for some reason thought it wouldnt sag that bad. I was wrong and had to build it up higher than needed.
@Whalermansteve84
@Whalermansteve84 3 жыл бұрын
@@KnottsFishing the paint sticks will hold up enough for you to get some glass down and won’t take up any space in that area. This also stoops it from sagging and preventing you to have to build multiple layers up

Why not clean that damn thing before working on it! 😂
@KnottsFishing
@KnottsFishing 3 жыл бұрын
There’s actually a good reason for this. Keeps the resin from sticking to areas not cleaned yet and the main reason is the dirt settles into the small spider cracks and shows up clear as day when your sanding the boat. Helps identify areas that you may not see if you pressure washed it all away.
@terryfonz4603

Dude resin will not adhere to a dirty surface. So there’s a very good reason for a clean work surface!
@KnottsFishing
@KnottsFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Bro, the surface I worked and glassed on was ground down with a grinder sanded and wiped off with acetone and denatured alcohol. Pretty sure it’ll stick to where I want it to stick. Go back and reread why i left it dirty.
