Fiberglass Bumper Repair Finally!

When I bought the Greddy bumper, there were some imperfections that needed to be fixed and repaired. So I thought lets get some footage on the different styles and techniques on how to fix a fiber glass bumper.
Total time of project was about four hours (not including paint). I spent a good amount of time on the repair because I wanted it to come out somewhat decent. So here you go!

I just used fiber glass on the back, then used bondo on the front, came out great.

@@ZBruhzchannel yeah now to go fix all the cracks and sand mine all the way down. It's going to be a lot of work but it's aftermarket body kit bumper I found at the salvage yard to fit my eclipse.

Appreciate the video man, hit a shipping strap on the highway totally fucked my front amuse bumper on my 370.. Got a quote for 1,800 to bondo and re paint.. I have never done this before but your video gives me confidence and I need to learn eventually. My biggest fear is color matching the stock Nissan white pearl and actually getting an even paint job. I ordered a r500 spray gun just for this job. Never used a paint gun before either.. Wish me luck.

Put some mat and resin on the back . That filler hair won’t be strong enough by its self to prevent it from cracking there again . Then the hair stuff and filler on the top

Great video. I didn’t know about the Bond Hair solution until now, and was originally gonna do fiberglass sheets with resin which takes a much longer to do. Only thing I recommend is putting the solution on the back of the bumper as well to make it sturdier. Otherwise, it won’t be reinforced and could crack easily again.

I understand in this video that it might have been the first time you have done this since you mentioned "instructions." And I have to say I'm pretty impressed.I do believe your video is going to be a lifesaver for me... I tapped my neighbor's bumper when he parked behind me one night. There are two very small dents that are less than 1/4" in diameter, and a minor scratch about 1" long. Behind 1 dent there is a hairline crack. ALL of this damage is so small you have to look really hard to see it. My neighbor was saying it can't be repaired because it's fiberglass, so he has given me a quote of almost $1,400 to buy a new bumper, paint it and install it! And here's the cincher...one corner of that same bumper already has several preexisting large (and obvious) scratches. (I won't even talk about other problems he has with this car.) And it has become clear to me that he is taking advantage of the situation to get a brand new bumper. When you can repair much worse damage on your bumper for $25, and you think an auto body shop can do it for a couple hundred, then I am smelling scam. Thank you for this very enlightening video! BTW, I cannot help but correct you on one minor mistake (from my area of expertise): that plastic dish you mixed your Bondo hair in was not Tupperware. I've noticed the word "Tupperware" is often used generically for all plastic ware, but I've sold Tupperware and I can safely say that you would never have put Bondo Hair inside a Tupperware dish for the sheer expense of it (not to mention that it would have been grounds for divorce if you were married). For a dish that size Tupperware could easily run you about $22, while the container you used was probably about 69¢. Just saying... (I hope you understand here that even though what I said is true, I am just giving you a hard time in a playful way.)

So you need to V cut the damage on the front then go on the back and put your fiberglass mat in your resin then filled front with Bondo that's what I've learned.

Hey mate you can paint primer straight on to fibreglass no need some soft of putty then sand that down put primer?

I have a rear hatch liftgate body panel and need to block down the keyhole since I want a shaved look... And also need to block down tiny holes left by deleting the bowtie.. I think it is FRP material.

The compound by its self wont be strong enough I been doing body for for some time what's gonna happen with no mesh in it to solidate when you hit a bump hard enough or bum a wheel stop enough gonna crack then back to square one nice video tho

I would say it depends on what you are using it for, but I do not think it will adhere to the plastic since it is fiber glass

The small pits are caused from not getting all the air pockets out of the filler when putting it on, kitty hair isn't strong enough for this kind of repair, will still allow stress cracks in the future.

You ever thought about trying to get a sponsorship by kdb body kits? They make the same style bumper I think, but made of polyurethane. Since you drift it would be better

how much do u think this repair would cost in a shop? I know it's very time consuming, and u need to be skilled, I've already asked 3 shops in my city, and all 3 said that we don't repair fiberglass lol.

If you go to a body shop that is slower they shoulde be able to take it in. Everything depends on how bad the damage is. Sometimes it just isnt worth it. The job in this video probably would have been around 150-200 USD

You missed a critical tool SANDING BLOCKS. That's how you get it straight otherwise your always going to see that shit. But it came out ok

Yea, I'm not a professional body guy just do things with the knowledge I have. After sanding the material down it came out really good and held up the entire time I had the bumper, so I was happy with it!

Instead of being insulting to the guy doing this video and telling the rest of us this will be a waste of time you could have been much nicer by being helpful in saying why it won't work and offering a suggestion or two that would make it better.
