1968 square stern fiberglass canoe that my brother and I started restoring 95% done and then unfortunately my brother passed away he was retired from Chris Craft boat company he built the mold for the boats. It still needs a bow cover and painted. That's why I'm watching your video I'm hoping I could learn how to finish my canoe it has been in the rafters of the barn since my brother's passing it is very unique I haven't seen another one like it.

Derek Thank you for telling us your story. Definitely finish that boat while you can, it will mean more to you than anyone else. And if your skill set is not up to his any there is an obvious difference between your work and his, don’t worry about it. That will give him something to rag you about when you meet up again.

Just picked up a beat-up old fibreglass canoe with the intention of fixing up and making it look good again. After watching your video I quickly realized I am very under-qualified for the task lol. Great video!

I really appreciate this video. My father in law gave us an old Radisson canoe, I think they are called Sportspal now. I am doing a restoration project on it and your video was very insightful! Thank you

Nice work! I built fiberglass canoes for years. The reason they don't enclose the floatation is because hot air will expand in the sun and cause the ends to buckle and/or crack, so it needs a hole to breath.
@barrylukebuilds78942 жыл бұрын
Thanks Alan! Makes good sense about the expansion, I hope I don't have it sealed too well. Barry

Really enjoyed your video. I did a canoe several years ago. Didn't turn out as well yours. But it's serviceable, I use it for some duck hunting and just messing around. And yes it was beat all to heck too.

I watched most of your CC boat videos and enjoyed them. It would be great to see a wrap-up video on that boat in the water, sort of a post-project tour. Thanks for the work you out into the videos.

That canoe has NEVER looked so good ! Nice job there buddy ! No big deal about adding a couple of pounds , it’s still not heavy . Your grandkids best appreciate the effort you did for them ! Hahaha. Nice video and NO don’t donate the purple shit , on your next boat repair use it in the patch job and let it live forever that way ! Lol
@barrylukebuilds78942 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave! Maybe that shirt might make a good patch, It is mostly resin and paint anyway. Thanks again Barry

Fun and informative video. How's it holding up?
@barrylukebuilds78946 ай бұрын
My son took it for a trip down the Tangipahoa River witch is shallow moving water with lots of downed trees to drag over. He punched two holes in the sides up high. I guess that’s why they no longer make fiberglass canoes. In deeper still water they are probably fine. Thanks for watching!
@robdude19696 ай бұрын
I’ve just been given a vintage glass canoe. I’ll be restoring it as well. You can see it on my channel. Mine seems a bit heavier than yours by the looks of it. We live on a still water lagoon. After watching yours and other videos on the topic, I’m leaning towards fresh gel coat. Sorry about the new holes. Hope you guys were able to patch them up. Thanks again for sharing your experience. Cheers and happy new year!

Typically by adding filler. Lots of types and lots of brands. Check out West Marine or Total Boat for some options.
