In this series of videos, we will cover making a multiple part fiberglass mold that will include threaded inserts
We are making a fiberglass mold of a Motorcycle fuel tank from a 1978 Kawasaki KZ650SR. This tank is very rare and hard to obtain.

You're obviously very skilled and experienced, it's a shame that you spend all of the time in the video talikng about what you're going to do or have done, it defeats the purpose of which ought to be showing what you are actually doing, I'm not sure I see the point...

@@iccustomsusa8048 I hope I didn't come across as overly critical, you are actually an excellent teacher and very much remind me of my High School chemistry teacher who could always provide the whys and hows in accessible language - Mr Longworth was superb in that regard. Most would be astonished at just how much high school chemistry I can still recall after ~38 years - that knowledge stuck! Anyway your narration of the process could have been over the top of footage of the processes, the knowledge is there. However I realise that you may be a solo operator, so filming whilst doing may be difficult - yes I know everyone's a critic, so please accept my 'suggestions' as being from a kind perspective

Thank you for your input, Truly! you are correct I do this solo and don’t make practice runs, retakes, or trim down hours of extra footage. Mainly thinking on the fly and blurting out relevant information. I do so in my spare time as well as Trying to learn how to do videos. Some people are naturals… I on the other hand am not :) Thanks again

Now I don't have a youtube channel, would like to, BUT it's work - so 100% appreciation of anyone doing that work and sharing their knowledge - thank you

Why didn't you use a coat of PVA before you shot the Gelcoat?

I use oil based modeling clay in 95% of my molds for flanges etc… to prevent wicking as noted in either EP1 or 2. With using clay’s, PVA is repelled because it is water based

@@jonmiller4952 Glad to hear they are helpful. Make sure you use vinyl ester resin, "so far" my brand has been Fiberlay 555 for layup note the MEKP ratio it differs from polyester resins that you would use to make your mold from. Also note your tank will need a "liner" basically a resin only coat (Vinyl ester or epoxy) inside the tank to coat any exposed fibers this prevents wicking of the fuel into the fiberglass mat. If your fuel contains "any" methanol, I suggest an Epoxy fuel tank liner as an added protection. Be sure to score/sand the internal surface of your tank no matter what resin you use for the liner prior to assembly to aid in adhesion. Good Luck!
