Violinist David Vidović and pianist Davor Matačić, a duo of Croatian musicians and perfectionists, performed set of 13 classical compositions as part of their practice session back in 2003. I had a privilege to record those magical moments with equipment hired from local TV station (where I started working as newsroom reporter at that time).

Zdeněk Fibich (21 December 1850 -- 15 October 1900) was a Czech composer of classical music. Among his compositions are chamber works (including two string quartets, a piano trio, piano quartet and a quintet for piano, strings and winds), symphonic poems, three symphonies, at least seven operas (the most famous probably Šárka and The Bride of Messina), melodramas including the substantial trilogy Hippodamia, liturgical music including a mass - a missa brevis; and a large cycle (almost 400 pieces, from the 1890s) of piano works called Moods, Impressions, and Reminiscences. The piano cycle served as a diary of sorts of his love for a piano pupil. He was born in Všebořice (Šebořice) near Čáslav.

POEM Op. 41, by Zdenek Fibich. Beautiful composition. I have been sorting through "Czech and Slovak items" my mother brought over from Europe when we emigrated to the USA in 1949 through Ellis Island. This is a 1942 sheet of music with Zdenek Fibich's autograph on it; this past year, I have donated many items which I have from "our" past to a Czech/Slovak and a Ukrainian museum. How my mother managed to save so many important items and then transport them from the Slovak area to the Czech area, and to France and then to the USA, even though my Czech grand parents assisted us, I will never know. My Ukrainian father promised my mother in an old letter to her during World War Il, to get "us" to the "USA, The Country of Last Hope".....and he did. His own mother and father (my grand parents), and two brothers perished in Russian Communist Labor Camps....his story is another wonder...My father's received an Ukrainian Army Medal of Honor later in life for his participation in the "Winter March in 1919, a battle against the Bolsheviks for "Ukrainian freedom".
