I do love close-up shots of the clothes you make and I love the shots of the inside finish because that is really where one can learn to do things better. Both of your dresses look wonderful on you. I love your dresses. Beautiful fabric for the first dress. I wouldn’t have thought of using a wild pattern with the Vila. Thanks for all the great tips and honest review. Now I am inspired to make my own dress from Fibremood… I think they are the best patterns around. For me they always fit so well.

Hi! I've just finished making my first Kika dress and agree with everything you've said here - there are some slightly odd things about how they have you assemble the dress! I have a digital subscription where you can print the pattern - including seam allowances - which is handy! I do like the version I made (in blue linen) as my 'wearable toile' but will definitely change some things - the same things as you did - on my next version with special fabric. The shallow pockets were a surprise - I wondered why they would make the pockets be such a big feature but make them so shallow you can barely use them?? The other thing I noticed on looking at the hashtag on Instagram is that so many versions have very very wonky hems! I don't know if this is due to sizing issues, or makers not letting the dress hang 24hrs before they hem it (something my mum always said you should do! I don't always...) - I nearly didn't make this pattern because I thought it had a hi-lo hem which I'm not a big fan of (epecially with all the other details on the dress), then I realised I could just straighten it - and then I saw it was supposed to be straight anyway! 😆 Anyway - thank you for posting about your experiences wth this, it was really useful!

Awww thank you. I hope you find it helpful. I just purchased a pair of DMs (how hip of this lady in her mid 40s!) and I wear my KIKAs on rotation with them. So I think I might add to my collection 😉

I think you are quite right, the front bodice piece would be much better cut on the fold. Thanks for the tip on adding seam allowance to the magazine patterns ❤

Hi Joanna. I’m in the middle of sewing the Kika dress and have got stuck with the pockets 😥. Do you know if there is sewing tutorial anywhere as to how to attach them please? I seem to have a brain block with it and don’t know where to turn!
