@@ArseneLapin-rc7qs The famous anthropologist Carlton Kuhn attributed most of the Franks and Alemanni to the Celtic type, which is a Nordic subtype containing a Dinaric and Alpine admixture, and is characterized by mesocephaly, a low arch, a protruding nose and darker pigmentation

@@ArseneLapin-rc7qs The term "Franks" still causes discussions among historians and philologists. It is first found in the form of Lat. francus. Diefenbach believed that the root was of Celtic origin

@@ArseneLapin-rc7qs Ganelon returned to Karl with the keys to Zaragoza, rich tribute and hostages. Unaware of the ambassador's treachery, the king led troops to France. Ganelon suggested that Karl appoint Roland as the commander of the rearguard. Who, if not his stepson, the best knight among the Franks, will be able to reliably cover the withdrawal of troops? Considering Ganelon's advice reasonable, Karl accepted it, leaving with Roland the best fighters: Olivier, Gerier, Gerin, Aton, Astoria, Turpin, Gerard, Gefier and Gauthier de l'on. The brave Roland, having taken command of the 20,000-strong rearguard, thanked the king for the trust and honor shown to him. It's the French

@@ОлегВоло-с2н You do realize that "La Chanson de Roland" is a posterior literary work? Ganelon never existed (probably inspired by the bishop Wenilon who betrayed Charles the Bald), Roland was some random Count of the March of Britain who did die in 778 at Ronceveaux, but no one really cared about him (the sources don't mention his death as important, neither is the battle of Ronceveaux -- cf. Eginhard's Vita Karoli)
