I agree so much with everthing you say about the four main characters and the world building being explained through songs, I esp loved that way of letting the reader know more about the world. Tarisai did some truly amazingly dangerous things to protect Dayo and I RESPECT HER. I'm definitely rereading it soon!

I literally found this channel today and have been watching it all day. My wallet is crying lol, I've purchased SOOO much fantasy thanks to Joel's recommendations. I'm hearing a lot of good reviews about this book, but the comparison with children of blood and bone scares me a little, cause that book and its sequel were underwhelming the story, (avatar with black people) the characters development, the world building the magic system and especially the WRITING !! sigh, it read like a fanfiction book, I enjoyed your review I would still buy this book
