For me, I like, next to Nigel's explanation of bonsai pruning, the "cosy atmosphere" he is able to build 🙂

No doubt that the root base is a direct result of the Saunders principles to bonsai. Rule 1 developing a flowing root base. Thanks for letting us go along with you on your bonsai journey

I really like how you study your species in nature. You catch a lot of flak on fb for not always using "traditional" bonsai methods, but I appreciate the focus on the natural shape. Focus on the Ficus...ha

Really enjoyed this video Nigel. It's great to see your thought processes as to how the tree will look in 4,5 or 6 years time and that you're not just pruning for the present moment but for the future. That is something that I must train myself to do in order to progress in this fascinating hobby. Thanks.

The large leves of the microcarpa make it more difficult to clearly separate folliage pads like you did for the serissa. But If someone can do it, that person is you. 👍

I have Tiny Leafs on my Ficus it is just Kanada not enaugh light to get small leafs. I did my pads in 3 year time but that s just becouse I have light to develope smal leafs.
@OddBonsai3 жыл бұрын
@@bonsai_life_style Could it be you have another cultivar of microcarpa? Mine has similar leaves like the one Nigel has and even when it is kept outside the leaf size does not reduce much.

Are serissas hard to care for?
@user-fb3pu3qx3t3 жыл бұрын
Yes, as they are tropical, so need sunshine and humidity. They are fussy about their position and don’t like to be moved. I have one but I’m already struggling with it.

For once I'm not appalled at how much you are trimming off. The finished product looks really nice. I think it looks a lot better opened up that way. My friend from England says a robin should be able to fly through the canopy of a tree without smacking into a limb. He is appalled at how afraid of pruning Americans are!

Not to be rude dude, but you can mute and run subtitles. One of the most appealing aspects of watching Nigel is seeing how much he and his family recycles and reuses daily things. It's easy to get caught up in throwaway culture.
