The cutting of a cutting is coming along, I think you might have to look at each tree in the plant room to check for scale.

You did end up getting that storm. Yuck! There were so many accidents in the city and on the highways. A fatality right near here. Highways were closed over 24 hours. It was awful. I think we will be below zero till mid March now. I couldn't get into my trailer, the house men couldn't get into their vehicles LOL

How do trees in nature handle scale insects? Does the cold kill them off and if so, how about the tropics?

I think in nature there are more predators to attack the insects. I find trees grown indoors tend to be much more prone to insect issues compared to outdoors.

Thats a nice little microcarpa Nigel, have you ever heard of ficus retusa? I purchased a ficus years ago that was tagged as a "microcarpa ficus retusa" A friend tells me its a tiger bark ficus so I'm wondering if you can help me with any knowledge you have about them.

I think that'd depend on the condition of the tree. Because of the insects, the tree might be weak, and defoliation on a weak tree would result in an even weaker tree. So personally, my first priority would be to get rid of the insects, but keep as much foliage as possible since the foliage helps the tree with gaining vigor.

Yes, I believe they are, but I don't want to put it to the test!!
