Lots of big cuts as I work on three trees today, my root over rock Tiger bark Ficus, my Ficus microcarpa "cutting of a cutting" and my large Ficus religiosa.

just love ficus for bonsai...... ! ! ! ! ! :) Into bonsai (ficus tiger bark) since a year or so.... Started out of cuttings cut from an S chape commercial type I didn't quite like.....too..... commercial looking! So here I am with 5 starters :) One already looks like a small tree ! ! it was severe cutting since I actually managed to root out litteraly "a thick "wood coin" It had no leaves at all just bark ! ! ! Crazy how strong survival is in the world of plants ! :)

Good information about your Ficus religiosa and growing it as a large bonsai. I have five of them and they are all different sizes. I think this will help me figure out how to develop them as time goes by.

21:40 I knew this was coming when you are thinking about it hahaha I think the root over rock ficus has the potential of multiple fronts, there was a view from just a bit offset from one of the side views that can also serve as a front. Looking good from most angles!

I've long had an idea for a penjang. A bonsai Ficus religiosa. One man sits in meditation under the tree. next to the tree is a simulated river and two men are fishing on a boat in the river. It would depict a major turning point in the life of Buddha. As Gautama, he had sought a solution to many questions that troubled him. He joined a group of ascetics gathered in a deer park (an old kind of hunting preserve) There he tried practicing various forms of personal sacrifice, culminating in a fast where nearly starved himself to death, but he was no nearer to enlightenment than when he started. He decided to sit down and meditate until he found his true path. So, he made himself comfortable under the shade of Peepul tree and meditated. On day, he heard two fishermen talking together. One said, "if you hold too tight, the line will break. If you hold too loosely, the fish will get away." That was a moment of epiphany. I take it to mean that in fasting so hard, he had been holding too tight and his line (meaning his physical body) had broken. To reach his goal, he had to hold firm to his chosen path but not so tightly to it that he injured himself. His chosen path was meditation and through that, he was able to find a path that millions, if not billions, have followed to internal peace.

Love that Ficus religiosa and the "navel" at the base of the trunk is like the bellybutton of Buddha 😇. Have one myself but its only like 1,5 years and struggle.

He's already giving away a lot of trees as seedlings or rooted cuttings. That's one of the wonders of a garden related hobby. You always have so many gifts to give your friends that you have to go out and find new friends to give them to. Gardeners are one of the friendliest groups in the world because they are among the most sharing. Everyone who loves gardening has way too many of something. I have too many cacti, but that didn't stop me from planting ten more packets of seeds yesterday. I just have to give away some plants to make room for them, and in a couple of years I will have that many young plants to give or trade.
