Instead of the long open strings, e and a, why not just use the pinky on the lower string? Sounds so much better and the pinky has to be strengthened at some point.

Hi Mark, that's great, you are right. And I always recommend that you try to use the 4th Finger... But I always show it as an open string, as it's easier for an advanced player to see the note and play it with the 4th finger, than it is for a beginner to think about it and then play it the other way.
