This title seems to imply Dubov supports Karjakins position when thats not the case at all and his position is logical and reasonable. I would consider rewording it if I was world chess

I must admit I had a similar expectation based on the title, but in the end I think the wording “looks odd” is pretty accurate. Dubov’s statement is balanced and clear at the same time.

They recently rephrased the title of a Bullet Chess Championship livestream so that it reflected who the two finalists were (one of them being Nakamura). But to be fair, they had to weigh a few dozen - maybe even one ot two hundred - more clicks from people who read Nakamura and jump on it against basically everybody else who didn't want the names to be spoilered. So, yeah, that's who they are, apparently.

It would be easy to just say that the decision is right in an emotional point of view. But he's a smart guy with a way more rational view to the topic and I would say he's quite right. Ban Karjakin and the other fools like forever or dont at all. Like if anybody ever wants to play against Karjakin ever again. Not going to happen.

The issue is that what does chess have to do with geopolitics. The obvious answer is nothing. Chess players should just stick to chess. Most of the time, these people are ignorant of almost anything outside of that, including basic social skills. So the entire idea of them commenting on geopolitical matters is stupid.

At least as important as the FIDE decision on Karjakin would be to ban Kaspersky from tournament sponsorships. The US FCC has deemed Kaspersky's security software to be an "unacceptable national security threat" on political grounds. Previously, in 2017 and 2019, all US federal agencies were banned from using Kaspersky software due to past security issues. I also have noticed that the "Kaspersky" name has disappeared as a sponsor of Ferrari's Formula One cars this season.

Don't forget to ban Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" around Chri... or, excuse me, holiday season. I feel it's a serious threat to national security. I also would advise against studying the games of chess masters of Russian or Soviet origin, unless they publicly repudiate Putin's conduct, and please don't mention that some of them are long dead -- I don't care. I only care about social justice... and supporting the Azov Battalion, I guess.

Under the “human” aspects he cites the fact that his political opinion differs from that of Karyakin (and the majority of the Russian people). Now that’s not “human”, that’s IRRELEVANT, in a free world different opinions can never be a basis for excluding a player from a tournament. Period. I find Dubov’s political position just disgusting but it would never occur to me to use that as a pretext to ban him from a competition. What he propagates here is a kind of totalitarian ideology where holding different political opinions is enough to ruin your life in all segments

@Dhiraj Pallin Did you read his tweets that got him banned? He did not say a word about the killing of Ukrainians. He welcomed the attempt to stop the killings of the inhabitants of Donbass, because his friends, acquaintances and relatives remained there. And this is understandable. During the recent conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Levon Aronian publicly called Azerbaijan a terrorist state in interview during a tournament and did not suffer any punishment for his words from FIDE. Azerbaijani grandmasters also spoke a lot in support of their homeland. I don't see what the fundamental difference is here. The rules should be the same for everyone. If it is forbidden, it must be clearly forbidden. If it is not, he is free to say anything until he is breaking a law.

@@e-rust I'm not familiar with the other conflict, but it sounds like your point is good. I think the difference here is the assaultive nature of the conflict and the vast difference in military strength, and that is causing the emotional reaction we are seeing around the world. People are appalled by what has happened. Karjakin's statement is disgusting to many because of his denial of reality. I feel sorry for him not because of the punishment but because he seems to be living in an alternative reality. Is he ignorant of what is really happening? Is he self-deluded? Is he too frightened of the government to be honest? I suspect it's the first two rather than the latter.
