They need to get rid of monitors showing the position in the break room to deter them from leaving the board so much.

While I agree it's bad, I think it would put a giant asterisk on the tournament changing the format mid tournament

Too late to change the setup, but it was a bad idea indeed

Im not sure what you're point is. They can play the game literally blind folded. So he can still think about the game without the monitor. There was a famous incident in Petrosian Fischer match '71 when the lights in the auditorium went out. Fischer got up from the board and Petrosian is still sitting in the dark at the table thinking. So Fischer called the arbiter and asked him to restart the clocks. So the arbiter very carefully walks up to Petrosian and politely asked him if they can restart the clocks and Petrosian had no issue with it.

@@turnbackthealarm yes they can play blindfolded, but not as well as seeing the board. My point was it was becoming a championship of the chairs, they were never at the board. That makes an awful experience for viewers and new players watching the game.

How does it matter? You can't come expect them to sit in the chair for 8 hours and be at their optimum level

It would have been really exciting if Nepo would have castled queenside and played the Rubinstein Attack!

Feels like a win for Ding in that he didn't fold under the extra pressure of his loss. That being said I think the clock, the hesitancy and his lack of experience will hand the crown to Nepo.

During Game 3 when Nepo removed his jacket you could clearly see the unhealthy weight he has around his mid section and how out of shape he is - Fischer, Kasparov and Magnus have emphasized how important it is to be in peak physical condition with the aid of regular vigorous exercise to compete in grueling championship matches - with 8 months to prepare for this world title match Nepo completely ignored the importance of physical fitness - it is a fair and just observation. If a boxer entered the ring for a championship bout and was out of shape the commentators would call him out for it as would the fans. Could this factor benefit Ding...we shall see.

I wonder if they faked the games for Ding in China? Or just gave him easy wins for the qualification? The way Anish says "These tournaments just appeared out of nowhere!"

It wasnt like they helped him climb the ranking ladder but only validate the spot he had already reached after playing international tournaments.

Lets accept Ding's personal issues as well. As chess players, we just could not understand the h3 in game 2, meanwhile we cannot forget the epitome of games Ding has played until, which has reached him to this level to play the WC. Human issues are unlimited cos money cannot solve it all.. Lets hope
