Unless ding specifically asked not to have a translator, this is embarrassingly poor organization of this event. Its ridiculous and Fide should be embarrassed about not getting a translator for ding. This man is a world chess championship challenger and you cant get a translator for him? There are about 500 million people in the world that speak english and mandarin well enough to translate and make it easier for ding to express himself.

If there was a translator from China for Ding they would have sanitized his comments -- but in reality his English is good enough for him to express his true feelings -- spending all that time in his rest room -- he admitted he was "depressed" and "something was wrong with my mind" and he wore a coat while sitting in his safe zone rest room "because he was feeling anxiety" and complaining about his travel and changing hotels. He is weak emotionally and should not be competing for the title.
@anuse2497

" If there... comments" You can get a translator anywhere for most of the languages. " but in .... feelings " agreed, but you should avoid expressing yourself until after the whole event. "spending... hotels." Ding is well aware that Nepo has chess giants behind his back. "he is ... title" Nah, It happens when you compete in the best event of a sport. He deserves to be there.

I don't know if he means like an actual depression or just extremely stressed and nervous, but clearly he did not enjoy it and is terrified of losing. I hope he has a friendly team who will support and relax him. I hope the Chinese government / public doesn't put too much pressure on him. His performance round one is outstanding, he should be very satisfied. It's very understandable Magnus did not want to go through this pressure again.
