I'm watching the American news on this and they fail to acknowledge that their involvement in supporting the Batista dictatorship contributed to Fidel Castro's rise to power. I was just watching CNN and they were quite annoyed with one guest speaker who made the suggestion that outside North America Castro is quite respected across the world for standing up to the USA. Throughout Castro's time in power the USA supported many dictatorships across Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, many of whom who have since been accused or convicted of many human rights violations. So it is really funny seeing the American media spin history where they did nothing wrong in their foreign policy with Cuba before and after Castro's rise to power.

gizzycat, What will live forever will be his lies and having destroyed the Cuba that before him was prosperous in dozens of economic lines; to Cuba that the only thing he had to do was raise the standard of living for the humble class. But what did the ambitious and hypocritical Fidel do? He took EVERYTHING from everyone, he took it over, filled the people with absurd and unjust laws; then, those who previously had something, with it they had everything prohibited. And since before there were three social classes, with him there is only one class; because he equalized everyone in terms of poverty, hunger, need and misery... Oh!... and the repression of the state against its citizens, something that before was only against the unruly.

I'm hungry "A few years ago, Forbes magazine estimated Castro's fortune in at least 900 million dollars. Many of those who are familiar with the dictator's business believe that Forbes was too conservative. The Cuban dictator runs Cuba as if it was his own farm and the 11 million poor Cubans as his slaves." www.therealcuba.com/?page_id=74 Fidel Castro was a capitalist. It's why, for example, he wanted US investment back in his country after he nationalized all Cuban businesses under his dictatorial control. Socialists aren't against capitalism - they just want to restrict the ownership and control of all capital to a small socialist elite.
@oof3113
@oof3113 7 жыл бұрын
DrCruel First of all, there is NO way Forbes would have been able to estimate's Castro's net worth, and it is also known that Castro lived a simple live, not much better than one of a Cuban's citizen's. Also, you are partially right when you say Castro is not against capitalism, but he is against imperialism, and that also led him to hate american values.

his was the country that Fidel left as an example to the world! * Cuba has the second best HDI in Latin America. [1] * According to the World Bank, Cuba has the best education system in Latin America. [2] * According to the WHO (World Health Organization), the Cuban health system is a 'world model'. [3] * The country's biotechnology industry is so advanced that many Americans travel to Cuba for cheap and rare medicines and vaccines that do not even exist in the United States. [4] * According to a UN study, Cuba is the second least violent country in Latin America, with 4.2 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. For comparison, this index reaches 25.2 per 100 thousand inhabitants in Brazil. [5] * The literacy rate on the island reaches 99.9%. [6] * The unemployment rate has varied between 1 and 3% in the last 13 years. [7] * The country was the only one in America to record economic growth in the last 21 years, ranging from 1 to 12%. [8] * Cuba is the only country in Latin America with 0% child malnutrition. [9] * It has the largest number of beds per inhabitant (5.9 per 1000 inhabitants) of America. Brazil has 2.4. [10] * The best life expectancy in Latin America (79 years). [11] * The lowest infant mortality rate in America (5 for every 1000 births). Brazil has 19 children killed every 1000 births. 12 * The highest rate of physicians per capita in Latin America, 1 for every 160 inhabitants. Brazil 1 for every 500 inhabitants. [13]

Petar Colovic, No, Cuba has been in power for 63 years, more enslaved than ever before. You know NOTHING about Cuba! You only know what Fidel Castro wanted the world to believe. Fidel destroyed Cuba, sucked out its riches and lived like a great tycoon (he and his elite general-heads of the party); he squandered the money and wealth of his people in wars, invasions (since 1959 and they have NOT stopped), sesorating and financing guerrillas and all the subversive movements that have existed in America, Africa, Europe, and even the USA itself have been penetrating and corrupting from within (universities, schools, press, etc). That government pays its innumerable agents to go around the world supporting revolts and seeking followers.

We are all deeply saddened by the death of Fidel Castro. The people of the world saw Fidel Castro as a beacon of those opposed to American imperialism and crushed by global capitalism. In January 2005, I was fortunate enough to visit Cuba. I saw a struggling, yet happy nation whose people were much better off than many other countries I visited. A great light has been extinguished; but the Cuban Revolution lives and will survive and flourish for many decades to come!

Another one of their techniques was to leave a banana skin next to the podium he was speaking from. :)

The love affair with Castro is ludicrous. He overthrew a tyrannical government and installed a tyrannical government of his own. It's like replacing a serial rapist with an arsonist.

It is extremely foolish to say he is a dictator...he is the leader who fought for the independence of CUBA...along with CHE GUEARA...
