@@gloriawitek6401 Good point. After all what IS wrong with 1 % of people being in possession of more wealth than they can spend & 99% of people with none? Or the capitalist society persons of the 1% able to operate in a free world, in while the 99% are having a communist regime implemented upon them. In fact whats wrong with world wars that pretend there were racially ideological reasons they happens when there wasn't. ? I mean surely continental sized robberies that empty the bank accounts of the poor 99% are ok ? Whats wrong with the rich 1 % wanting even MORE so starting world wars so they can take everything ?. So yes i agree with you why hate Fidelity or any of the other secret society globalist companies seeing to it that 1% have access to unlimited wealth. I hope the 1% get away with it all. even the 1% who run the water companies and are dumping sewage in the rivers so its unsafe to even EXIST.

Staying private seems like a better option than public companies for the employees because it allows them to provide better benefits versus worrying about the bottom line and what the shareholders think. This is why they were voted top 100 company to work for.

Not just private but zero leverage and no owners that don’t work in the company. Even being sold to private equity the company is run down to shit and employees are smart to leave because all the perks that allowed them to grow are over with. Even users of the product should seek to leave when one of these things happen.

In the context of Kaiser Steel in the 1980s, I don't think it was competition from China that was the issue - it was Japan. China did not come onto the steel export scene significantly until the 2000s, even having a trade DEFICIT with the United States in steel until the mid to late 2000s.

I really enjoyed this presentation on the background and history of Fidelity's roots. I've invested through Fidelity since the early 1990's...I remember Peter Lynch being their spokesperson on all marketing materials. I have found them to treat the "little guy" well over the years, allowing them to become one of the "big guys". They promoted investing in a true and steady fashion...focusing on the long term, rather than jumping on the latest temporary trend or newest financial gimmick.

But after reading the report published by the U.S. government at the time (books.google.com/books?id=lLG-RgUMYFUC ) , China was the 5th largest steel producer. But since it was coming out of the cultural revolution, the growth of the steel industry was faster than any other country, at an incredibly cheap cost. That is what created competitive pressure.

This is a well detailed and informed video. I'm here to learn how to invest after listening to a guy over the air talk about the importance of investing and how he made $410,000 in 5months from $180,000 startup. Somehow this video has helped shed light on some things, but I'm still confused, I'm a newbie and I'm open to ideas

Johnson was one the very first people that put a person, not a group, in charge of a fund. I read that n Wikipedia. That’s a huge shift for a fund. It creates this “company” with a ceo instead of a the thing funds were back then. It’s a difference between an “investment club” that a group of senior citizens establish and a modern day hedge fund. His hire, Tsai, and his success in growing the new company shows this very clearly. I think he was lucky that as he started this, the whole system was ready to have 1 single seed, nurtured to grow and become HUGE. So he became that seed by being the 1 that starts a fund when no one else would even talk about starting a fund. Market cycles are full of people like that.

Damn! Damn. Such a good storytelling and visuals and music. I'd say maybe even TOO deep and intertwined for a casual viewer, but for me it was perfect :) Also the first video on the company instead of person - almost seamless transition, not so easy to pull off, congrats :) I am curious though... How did you get the rights to succession music theme, and are you doing these 3D rendering scenes yourself/outsourcing or is there some marketplace with scenes like that?

I'll compliment you on all the work you did with this, but I think there's a fair bit that's been left out. For instance how has the business changed under Abigail Johnson? Private investments they've made such as their investment into SpaceX. I think going into the Qualitative vs Quantitative shift of management, and also going further into the way they dodged the 2008 crash by not going into banking. 401k management is more than half of their assets too. Seems like maybe this could have been part 1 of a 2 or 3 part series.

Kaiser was just one of seven companies that built the Hoover Dam. Built in 1933- not 1931. One of those seven companies was Bechtel Corporation (now the largest construction company in America). Kaiser Steel was created to provide steel for Kaiser's shipyards that built hundreds of ships during WW Two. Kaiser owned six ship builders and part of a seventh. Kaiser died in 1967 and Kaiser Steel's only steel mill shut down in 1983. There were TWO Edward C. Johnsons who ran Fidelity- Edward C. Johnson II followed by his son Edward C. Johnson III. This video does not distinguish between the two. I could go on and on with corrections and clarifications.

Well, it kinda depends. Not all investing pays. In fact, most don’t. There are a few variables that need to be correctly guessed. Best bet is SP500 Index Fund and just ride it out. Average Joes should not expect to beat the Above-Average Jooze who game the system against them. For much of US history, free market principles governed much of our economy. This is no longer the case, wealth inequality it an all time-high, government regulation is higher than ever, the rich never pay their fair share, majority of tax burden will always fall on backs of working class, we face a crushing national debt that will never be able to be repaid without horrific consequences or a complete restructuring of the system. So, investing might not continue to pay.

The single most important thing to remember the stock market is no longer an investment in America primarily . It has evolved away from that becoming primarily a fixed ,insider privileged , gambling casino where losses default to gains through complex financial vehicles that end up contributing to producing bubble economies that default many losses to tax payers.
