Thank you for uploading this gem. Apart from DFD‘s excellent interpretation, I really love the sound of the japanese chorus, one of the best live versions of Brahms’s Requiem I have heard so far.

Nun ist er von uns gegangen, doch mit seiner Kunst wird er weiterleben.

It's typical of DFD to deliver oratorio text in an unusually engaged manner. But, at age 64, with a voice that's thinning out, he's overcompensating, I think. He retired four years after this performance, abruptly. I treasure all videos of his singing. He was spellbinding in live performance!

this was not DFD at his best. Find the Deutsche Grammophone recording. Edith Mathis soprano. Barenboim conducting. It is too perfect.

How can you not take it seriously. Really think again. The German Requiem meant things for Fischer=Dieskau that we will never understand.

Michael Bouman is right on the money: It's typical of DFD to deliver oratorio text in an unusually engaged manner. But, at age 64, with a voice that's thinning out, he's overcompensating, I think. He retired four years after this performance, abruptly.

Der Jahrhundertsänger wird nie wieder erreicht werden, auch wenn diese Aufnahme technisch nicht perfekt ist. Trotzdessen ist es ein bedeutendes Dokument für die unerreichbare Klasse von Fischer-Dieskau.

Too bad about the muddy, skipping sound. DFD was far past his vocal prime by the time he sang this, but there is a kind of winsome valor in the performance nonetheless, and a delicacy. Interesting.

The idea of having youngsters in their teens and early twenties singing music this demanding I find atrocious and appalling. But at least F-D provides a positive element.
