I've had a Field #6 and #8 for several years and purchased a #10 about a year ago. Their craftsmanship is pretty close to perfect. I seasoned mine before cooking with them (I do that with all of my cast iron and carbon steel). I enjoy all of my cast iron pieces (new and vintage). . . . .but the Fields pieces are my favorite.

I agree about their craftsmanship, from the skillet to how they package and ship it to their customers. So far, I am very impressed. I may have to order more in the future! Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you John and I did give my no 6 a try and it did fairly well with an omelet of all things! I am putting up a video showing the process from start to finish so people would know what to expect.

@@ladylibertystacker2014 do you own a Lancaster cast iron skillet? March 22nd they are releasing there #10. I have there #8 already. Also very good skillets.

March 24th , sorry.

No, I do not. I actually only vaguely heard about them. I will definitely check it out. I am wondering how the price compares to the Field. Also how does it hold seasoning based on your experience with the #8? Thanks so kindly!

I own the 12,10,8 and 6. I love em all great company producing great skillets. I put two layers of easy bezzy cast iron seasoning and it did the trick. I also own numerous vintage pieces that I collect. Enjoy they are a wonderful to cook with
@ladylibertystacker20142 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! I decided to go ahead and give my no. 6 a try without a full additional seasoning first. It worked fairly well. I will now season both skillets for 2-3 rounds in the oven to see if I tell any difference between the two once they are done. Anyway, these skillets are gorgeous and so far I am impressed. Thanks for watching!

I told you they were super nice skillets. You will love them. I put 2 additional coats of seasoning before cooking in all mine. Hope to see some cooking in them from you.
@ladylibertystacker20142 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brian! I didn't season first before using my No. 6. It didn't do too badly. My video will be going live tonight around 5-6 pm or so showing it's maiden "voyage" with an omelete. My next video will be seasoning my #6 that I used once and the #12 that I didn't so we can compare the difference. That should make an interesting video, don't ya think?
@brianpresley69982 жыл бұрын
I think that will make an excellent video.
@ladylibertystacker20142 жыл бұрын
Cool! I will do that when I can find a window of time when I am home! I will give each about 2 coats. That should be enough I would think - like you did. Have you heard of Lancaster cast iron? They are coming out with their #10 on March 24th. Just wondered if you ever heard of them or have one. The only thing is if their #8 is $175, then I am sure the #10 will be more. Even though the Field Co. is heavier, at a price point of $195, the assist handle makes it easy to handle. The Lancaster does not have an assist handle, but it does have pour spouts. Just thinking out loud - thanks my friend! lol
@brianpresley69982 жыл бұрын
I have heard of Lancaster. Don't own one or have seen one in hand. I have a Fredericksburg skillet, a new Texas Foundry, but I don't care for it much because it doesn't hold the seasoning as well either and it sticks too much no matter how many times i have seasoned it. Is a nice skillet, but not as good as the Field for new cast iron.

If you want to get fancy, look up Borough Furnace CI skillets. I love their story and the skillets look great, but last I checked I'm not a rich man.....lol But look them up and check them out

The field skillets are awsome. I been cookin with the #8 for a couple months now . Gonna cook with the #12 tomorrow and use the #6 for cornbread tomorrow

So far, I am really loving these Field skillets. I haven't used my #12 yet as I am planning on giving it 2 additional coats of seasoning before I use it. I did succumb and used my #6 one more time to make an omelet that slid right on out of the pan. I was super happy about that, but plan on giving it 2 additional coats as well.

I like your new Field Cast iron pans. It was a good deal. I never bought that brand before, but I might. Look forward to seeing what you make in them.

I really like them too. My next video shows me cooking with the no 6 right out of the gate. It did fairly well considering that I cooked a ham & cheese omelet. Thanks for watching!

Thanks LLS . Nice. I was lucky to find a Smithey at a thrift store for a very good price. I'm a bit confused. Cast iron and carbon steel what are they and do we strip them the same and season the same. Thanks.
@ladylibertystacker20142 жыл бұрын
I wish I could answer your question, but I don't own carbon steel, nor am I familiar with it. I am sure if you search on KZbin, you can find videos that can advise you accordingly. As for cast iron, it is iron cast in a mold and there are plenty of KZbin videos showing you how to strip them safely starting with my own playlist! I am sure you can find info on carbon steel as well. Best wishes to you going forward.

Nice! Congrats too. I'm jealous lol. I might pull the trigger too soon.
@ladylibertystacker20142 жыл бұрын
You should! Nothing to be jealous of, unless it is of a lighter wallet! 🤣 All kidding aside, these are nice, so I would wait until they have a sale that fits your needs. Go to their web site and if they have your email address you will be notified throughout the year of their various sales. The best one is the factory seconds where they sell ones with slight cosmetic flaws for a discount. I still would like to get their no. 4 because I don't have a decent no. 4 in my collection. I have many number 8s, but I could use a good no. 10 that I am willing to use. The 3 that I own (No. 10 Slant Logo Griswold is gorgeous & super valuable so I can't bring myself to use it, my no. 10 Lodge is too heavy, and my #10 Stargazer doesn't hold seasoning very well, but cooks all right!) Anyway, thanks for watching!

@@ladylibertystacker2014 Thanks for the detailed reply! Yes I have two 10 inch Lodges that I ground down to a smooth finish and reseasoned. They are a bit heavy for my wife though. I have an 8 inch Wagner that I love. I also have a 10 inch wrought iron AUS-ION skillet that is much lighter than cast-iron. But all that aside, I just pulled the trigger literally and bought myself the number eight online. Lol. Can’t wait for it to get here!

Why Field over Smithey? Smithey has the pour spout.
@ladylibertystacker20142 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know. I have heard so many rave reviews from people I know on how much they like Field Company, when this deal came along, I jumped on it. Actually, not having pour spouts doesn't seem to make a difference when I use the pan to pour out liquid in comparison to pans with pour spouts. That said, I wouldn't use these to make gravy! lol
