As a marine infantry veteran I think your channel is spot on brother, I hated shaving in the field luckily my platoon sgt would let us go for a couple days unless the company commander would say something then cold shaves lol 😆

Also you might add; nail clippers, tweezers, and if you wear glasses an eye glass repair kit. Moleskin is a must to deal with those hot spots you can get on a long patrol etc. I always go for non scented body wash, wipes, powders etc. Especially if you are going on a patrol.

Benadryl type for bug bites, pepto bismo tabs, activated charcoal, alieve/Tylenol, and visine or eye wash solution. From my own experience in the field/camping/hiking. Keep up the awesome work...

A bar of travel soap is what I use for shaving (I also grow hair really fast). Also when we have time/ opportunity to wash your self a bit, its nice to have a small bar of soap. REI has a product that is essentially soap paper also they make tablet toothpaste. Its better and lighter to carry that in arctic environments, they are convenient and also odorless.

Look into arko soap. You can jam it into any container you like (such as an old chapstick screw thing, or a small carmex tub) and then you can get a nice lather.

Will do! Thanks!

The Arko product looks legit. Typically we used to just use water, cuz your carrying it all in, and your standing in a dirt field using a canteen to rinse off. And how many trips to the water Buffalo does one fella want to make on his time limited rest/break cycle. Now I just don’t shave but once a week, with an electric razor. I did see a very senior SNCO head shed guy bring a butane stove to heat water, soak a rag to open his pores first. Use a foldable kitchen sink. And legit shave. But that all came in on wheels. 😂

Brother I have tried to motivate guys to consider a hygiene kit, but many don’t. Sack Nasties. Dental floss/ Flossers = first line gear. It ain’t about a Hollywood smile, it’s about hygiene. I witnessed a lot of Marines not floss. Some blue shop towels go with me. I still carry old school Camp Suds. Sunscreen, both SPF and Medicated Chap Stick are under rated. Hibiclense is something that Doc should carry, but it becomes necessary in order to hygiene celluitus /MRSA etc. Coffee and Emergen-C round out my sickness prevention plan. In the long run, an essential greens supplement will keep us from going down.
@TheGruntPerspective Жыл бұрын
If you’re having trouble with guys not doing it, I’d suggest inspecting them, inspect their kits, make them open it, don’t just see the bag and call it good. And enforce hygiene in the field.

Totally agree with the shaving bit. My face’s skin is already going through it being out in the elements, applying face paint, helmet straps, etc. but all in the name of staying “professional” I have to make it even worse.

Another good video! Hand sanitizer is also a good fire starter. Not as good as the lip balms, but better than nothing. I carry a small ouch pouch with some of the meds you mentioned along with assorted bandaids and such. You can make single use applications of antibacterial using straws. A larger pair of nail clippers with a file comes in handy. Also tick removal items.

Learned the hard way about baby powder vs body powder, as a Brit we were always issued with baby powder and I'd use it on my top and tail as well as socks. Was deployed with the US for 6 months and the medics were dishing out powder, took some and only realised it had menthol in after I'd used it all over.

Not brushing teeth is so very nasty but what is nastier is the bacteria from when you brush each time enters your blood and you actually have a mild case of bacteremia as the level jumps then is neutralized, and the same bacteria affects one’s heart, especially when a person has large amounts, and if a person has a tiny damage in the valves this bacteria can take hold and under some circumstances.. ok I am WAY OUT OF MY LANE. Read up on it or ask Professor Vincent Racaniello from This Week in Virology and This Week in Parasitology to explain it. He would probably be thrilled to have you on to have a special episode on infectious medicine and parasitology as it pertains to the battlefield. I would love to hear it, and I really wish more people would respect these folk’s serious sacrifices, many have dedicated more years to this topic than we been alive. I have asked him a lot of questions about ticks because we have TBE here in Sweden. Even though I have a vaccine it is the MRNA type of Vaccine so one must get updates and the ticks here in Sweden like 10% of them are literally carrying the stuff so its a big health concern as encephalitis is a bit of a set back. I often wonder what is being done if anything to protect the world from the disease cultivation in tight close quarters such as trenches as in right now, there could be tomorrow’s pathogens brewing as we sleep. Cheers, been binge watching all your vids.
