Field Stripping Your Pistol

The way Julie explains this, a person that has never touched a gun could successfully perform this field strip, care, cleaning, lubrication and reassembly of probably any semi-automatic handgun. I also like that she also tells you to reference the owners manual and also emphasizes gun safety even though you know the gun is unloaded. Great job, Julie!!!!!

After push the gear deactivation lever down, I had to pull the trigger the remove the slide on both my full and compact M&P9 2.0.

In case people don't know this: If you buy a modern used gun without an owner's manual, you can call the manufacturer (its name will be engraved on the slide) and they will be happy to send you one!

Contemplate this: There are (rare) occasions when a round (probably with the projectile not seated deep enough) doesn't feed properly and gets stuck, pinched in a weird way between the frame and the bottom of the ramp etc., and "tap and rack" becomes impossible/useless. This has happened to me twice over many thousand rounds with my H&K pistols. The only way to (quickly) relieve pressure and free the round was to disengage the takedown pin. Having to find, remove, and use a tool to release the sear, etc., before releasing the slide, which will be stuck in place, is a time-consuming step - potentially making an otherwise easy correction impossible in a time-constrained situation (IMHO). Not hating on anyone or anything, just pointing-out a potential "gotcha" when it could have a high cost. This extra step might dissuade individuals from cleaning in a timely manner once the novelty has worn off as well. Be aware, and enjoy your tools, whatever they may be. :)
