We really wanted to close the argument that Asia in general is cheaper so we decided to head out to the supermarkets and do a comparison and answer the question - is the Philippines really cheaper than the UK?

Great video guys. I am an English expat in the Philippines. Just a couple of points to add. 1/ You can get M&M's in PH. 2/ The price of beer is cheaper in the UK plus you get a discount for bulk buying and larger packs of everything but they don't do that in the Philippines.

Yes, cheaper items here in the Philippines but salary is also low, so for a normal filipino, these items are still considered expensive.

You cannot compare the prices between U.K. and the Philippines, because prices in the Philippines are varies from different grocery stores or different malls. Here in the U.S. is the same thing, and we have to shop around from grocery stores where the best price.

Interesting- one thing to remember- you can save huge sums of money by buying local stuff. Fruit and veg from local markets grown locally. The big hyper market is more expensive. S uk Tesco etc is a bit cheaper because they managed to kill off a lot of uk markets so now not much in the way of competition

Yes dairy products are more expensive in the Philippines. A couple of last Australian bloggers checked the price in supermarket here and they both agreed that the dairy products seem more expensive. But I expected it because cows are big in Australia and new zealand. Guys there is a huge community of Filipinos in UK please do a Filipino restaurant food blog

I've just starting to watch d video but i can be sure that d cost of living n shopping groceries in d Southeast Asian region r cheaper than in d UK. Well, except for Singapore, I haven't been to d country since d 1980s. In Malaysia, d prices for shopping groceries r still in d affordable range except for d imported goods.

There are hidden costs besides foods either western or other European countries. In colder climates, you have to factor in heating costs. For example here in Winnipeg Canada my last bill for heating costs $600CAD for 3months and general sales tax is 12%

The electric costs in Philippines is more expensive than Canada. Plus many places in Philippines have higher prices for foreigners

Philippines is cheaper if you're using foreign earnings but it is expensive for locals. That shopping will cost 4 days to earn at minimum (Php420/day) vs. 3.5 hours for a UK worker. Massive difference

Groceries like that in the Philippines cost more than local groceries. That’s why many locals has their grocery of choice to save more. Didn’t you notice that grocery store you went to in the Philippines barely had any people? That’s cuz only people with decent to great salary can afford those. That’s why the price is close to UK’s. Not the mention prices of some international product would be more due to shipping tax (not including VAT).

Everything that we buy should be halal. In Asia we’ve found that the grocery items have the halal sign on them which is amazing. In the UK they have the vegetarian sign in them.

As long as the standard money of the world is an american dollar Everywhere you go, the price would be sligrhly the same, slightly cheaper or slightly expensive. Not even the philippines is spared for cheap prices, becaue the govenrment is controlling these prices to match the price of the world market. Another thing are, most process product from philippine, even though is lokal, like soap, milk, can goods, flour are some of these ingredients came from imports and fun fact.. the philippines is number one consumer of imports in the world. Even pork, chicken and beef came from other countries, and to my surprise, even fish is also imported. The only cheap you could get from philippines is to buy from lokal farmers, lokal production that usually not monitored by the government. Like lokal pork ,beef and chicken that do not get permits tonthe government to sell. Lokal vagetable, lokal fish from lokal fishermen that use small boat that not also monitored from the government.

Philippines is a 3rd world country (all in south east asia except singapore). UK is the 1st industrialised country in this world. You need to take into consideration of paycheck. This showed that cost went up for all after Russia attacked Ukraine.

Grocery shopping in the Philippines can only be considered cheap, if a person is earning at least 2nd world country standards. But in our wage? It has been always expensive. Idiot politicians keep on bragging that a regular person can have enough 20pesos per single meal, which is a big lie! These politicians must try out that 20pesos per meal in a month and let's see what happens. Prices always go up once or thrice every year while salaries only increase every 5 or 10years. And it's not even enough. That's why every year more and more people become poor in this country. Sad fact
