I have a VP85 and love it. I try hard to protect it by never using it without a filter on the input. I love the fact that it can start on a low voltage. As for vacuuming down a system, I never pull though a manifold. I either use the Apion 3/8 vacuum hose set or on larger systems the Bluvac hoses. I also use Apion vacuum rated shrader tools. I only valve off at the shrader tool to isolate and check for decay. The manifolds, standard service hoses are not designed for vacuuming; they leak.

Thanks for the shout out man, I fell in love with the pump when I first got it. I was skeptical at first but it really has it's advantages and it just works really well. Plus big difference looking at photos of it VS in person once you get it.

I bought this exact one. Have used it on any jobs as yet. Was using the old robinair 6cfm. I also bought the 1/2 vacuum hose for it Navac makes it.

Great to see your test of the pump. I would have preferred an oil mist filter on the exhaust port. Such a filter should also silenced the noise a lot. Best to get the oil mist and gas out of the area by a hose, but not easy all places. I look mostly for 35 microns on ULT cascade systems low stage circuits. The manometers and hoses is always a task to checkout as you experienced. Seen sight glasses on meters sucking air especially on duty of high pressure refrigerants. I do as many, tighten the hoses harder than necessary and by that compress the gaskets to a shortened lifetime. The hoses with hard surface gasket has to be tightened hard, but is so sensitive to small hose drifting by experience. Nice to follow your relaxed way to work and investigate/find problems😊

I bought one of thoes pumps last year to replace my 6 cfm Robinair pump. I really like the pump, draws down quick and deep. I did the same tests with my gauges and figured out a few things there. Good review video

I have the same issues when trying to pull deep vacuum through my gauge set. Ive changed seals, packed knobs with silicone and nothing seemed to help. Now I just bypass the manifold and use a tee gauge and pump.

I have those same yellow jacket hoses. I was having trouble with my vacuums. Ended up finding those valves wouldn't let me pull a deep vacuum. I've been using the appion 1/2" hose with core remover. It works great
@HVACGUY
@HVACGUY 2 жыл бұрын
Yep, anytime there’s a ball valve the potential is there. And the valves on the hoses aren’t spec’d like the ones on the core removal tools.

@@jamescook7588 The one with the best hose and core remover. Amazing what a good vacuum hose will do to reduce vacuum times. I like the 1/2" Appion hoses as well. However was blown away with the 3/4" Tru Blu hoses I just got.

We pulled a system down to 200 micron by lunch time and told the apprentice we'll go to lunch and let the pump run and we'll drop the charge after we get back. When we returned the pump was off because the gfci tripped and when I turned on my micron gauge we were reading atmospheric and noticed the oil level dropped significantly. I removed my hose from the split and oil started coming out of the core remover. Needless to say I started to panic because we only had about 4' of straight before we went to a 12' riser. I dumped 2-80cf tanks in the system at 700psi trying to push the oil out with no luck. We removed all the line setfrom the roof, riser and 15' in the flat and had to replace with new line set. I thought this was going to be a good pump but learned real quick I can't leave it unattended. I never had that issue with my jb eliminator. I tried looking for a inline check valve from the supply houses and they all told me to buy a new pump or try to rig something up.

Be careful with all that plastic. I’ve also heard the seals are suspect on the removable oil containers. Looks like a great machine, but it needs to be a little more rugged. Thanks for the review.
@HVACGUY

Yore right, the oil containers basically line up and hopefully touch, but not really sealed.

It is a very rugged pump, Its not cheap plastic its a polymer of some sort. They make high powered rifles, machine guns and pistols out of similar material so Id say its pretty rugged, also no issues with the oil containers. Doesnt spill a drop during oil changes, ever.

I never pull through a manifold because it is slow and isn't meant to hold that without valving off. I use the Trublu Pro hose kit and that VP87 runs like a top. Have you tried the Accutools software?

I've never been successful in pulling a vacuum through the manifold, especially through the regular hoses, and even worse so through ball valve hoses. I've been most successful when eliminating the manifold, a regular micron gauge, and larger diameter vacuum rated hoses.

I love my SMAN gauges, but have noticed (and it has always been my error) that if I don't catch the pressure not being zero, it will not go into deep vac.

Tru tech has a video showing the drastic rise when you pull a vacuum on something with a small volume like hoses and the degassing of the hose tend to contribute to the rapid decay🤷🏽‍♂️ idk if that's this scenario though.

@HVACGUY
@HVACGUY 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not something you use everyday. So, finding one that’s small is important. You want it to fit under the shelves in your van. The fieldpiece, and Appion G5twin both fit that bill, and they are dependable.

One very important question I've got mate , I really need to know 1 thing : does the vac pump include a solenoid to isolate it from the hose on case somebody pulls the plug off ? Like if you leave it running and you lose power , do you lose your vaccum inside the system or does the solenoid prevent that ? Thank you very much mate .
@HVACGUY
@HVACGUY 2 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn’t. If it loses power you’ll lose your vacuum. You would have put one inline yourself

There isn’t a vacuum on the planet that holds a vacuum after you shut it off you have to valve and isolate the micron gauge off.
