Why shoot wild boar?
This is the UK argument - but the picture is similar in Sweden.
Wild boar were once native to Great Britain but became extinct more than 300 years ago. Following escapes or deliberate releases from wild boar farms from the 1980s, they have now established breeding populations in the wild including Kent and East Sussex in the South-Eats of England, Dorset, Devon and the Forest of Dean in the South-West, and parts of Scotland. DEFRA estimates the current population at around 500 in the established colonies. Local wildlife managers estimate it at nearer 5,000.
Wild boar are omnivorous and approximately 400 species of plants and animals have been reported to be part of their diet. Their habit of rooting through the floor of woodland and pasture leaves a clear indicator of their presence. They will take both eggs and nestlings of ground-nesting birds and can damage crops, gamebird release pens and game feeders. Damage to agriculture can also be extensive and concerns have been raised regarding collisions with traffic. Boar have no natural predators in the UK meaning culls are necessary to control population growth.
Wild boar are susceptible to the same diseases as domestic pigs and therefore have the potential to spread infectious disease such as swine fever, foot & mouth and Aujesky’s disease (Gow, 2002; Natural England, 2007).

the dog is too close for a save shot, it's a no-go. Bear in mind that bullet fragments can leave the boar's body in many different directions.

The shot 18,30 made me sick. Why take a shot when dog is just behind the boar . Better let it go than shot in panic. The rest was good shooting though.

The Spectator Sure it was instinct ,but still wrong especially from a professional hunter. The boar didnt run over him just trying to get away. Many dogs are shot that way . Not ok in my world. That kind of shooting inspire other who watch to do the same i think.

I can see using a rifle in the woods but when you get in the reeds wouldn't a 12 gauge with buck shot be better hits them harder and you get more hits on target so you get a better chance of the boar dying instantly.

Sometimes you end up in the forest sometimes in the reeds, depending on where the dog finds the pigs. It is a compromise and you take the weapon you are most comfortable with.

I was going to say slugs in a semiautomatic shotgun would be a better choice for follow up shots. Also why not laser dots?
@Meandow
@Meandow 5 жыл бұрын
Everything has its' ups and downs, semi auto shotgun with slugs would definitely be better close quarters but on slightly longer range it'd be worse, on top of that there aren't many suppressors available (or at leasn't hasnt been). In regards to the laser dots it's strictly forbidden during regular hunts, you may only use it when you hunt down wounded animals and finishing off game that was caught in a trap.

I haven't hunted anything yet but looking to join a shooting club first, to get into the sport properly and safely. If you get a FAC license in the UK, can you take your own weapons to Sweden to hunt the boars. Is it a problem checking weapons into airlines ? Also how to you secure your weapons when staying in hotels ? Just looking to be educated not wanting to look like Im asking stupid questions, but then as the wise man says the only stupid question is the that isn't asked...
@SijmoN
@SijmoN 5 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the license, but expect to be taken to a shooting rage where they'll have you shoot "running moose and wildboar" and make sure you rifle meets swedish class 1 10g bullet that hit att 2000j at 100m or 9g at 2900J at a 100m, to make it easy .308 or bigger. You can bring your own guns just make sure to have all the pappers you need, not sure how brexit will play out but for now a EU weapens passport is all you need. No problem flying with guns as long as you follow the airlines rule and have to right pappers.

@@SijmoN Is there any laws or rules in Sweden regarding storage of the weapon whilst you stay in temporary hotel accommodation ? Im assuming from your post that a 6.5 creedmoor would satisfy your regulations!!
@SijmoN
@SijmoN 5 жыл бұрын
Not sure about temporery storage, i assume you ha e to remove a vital part and store it seperat from The Gun, 6,5x55 is just about class 1 with 10.1g bullets depend on The barrel lenght as well, heavy home loaded creedmore round might make it to swedish class 1 but i would go with something bigger, if you plan to go with a driven Hunt bigger is better most hunyers here would say.
@Elfin4
@Elfin4 5 жыл бұрын
@@SijmoN But surely a Tikka T3X TAC A1 in the 6.5 Creedmoor with a 24inch barrel will have the equivalent velocity and knock down of a 308 just less recoil.

@SijmoN 5 жыл бұрын
@@Elfin4 asfar as I know there is NO factory ammo here in sweden that meet class 1, i know poeple load to class 1 on there own, 140gr creedmore rounds do not meet class 1, not sure IF you can bring that rifle and Hunt with it in sweden, here in sweden you can get it on a hunting licens..
