I've been happily dating my SO for 13 years and we came to this realization... One of the most important things couples need to acknowledge before any fight or disagreement is that YOU and your SO have each other's backs no matter what. You have to have a mutual understanding that when SHTF, that you and your SO will be the only people you can rely on (Bankruptcy, Illness, Zombies). Its hard to insult or hurt another person intentionally when you realize you are both on the same team.

My wife and I have been married for 39 years. About 10 years ago we sat down and wrote out our rules of engagement, ie. no name calling, no generalizations, no comparing with anyone else. No bringing up the past, etc. we decided that our relationship was more important than anything. Else. We have found that there are times when we might be technically right but still be very wrong. It’s more important to do right than be right. We go out of our way to tell each other that we love each other. It is easier to love someone you respect so we choose to respect each other. I love the fact this kind of fight requires you bring no weapons to the fight.

Good video. As an older fellow, I heard you both discuss what my wife and I have practiced. It works as long as you also remember that love isn't that warm fuzzy feeling you had when you first got together. We've found that love is a choice we make every moment. It doesn't matter what emotion you're feeling, if the relationship is to last, you must choice to stay in the relationship and fight for it everyday.

Early on in my marriage, I came home and my wife started to raise her voice at me. I stopped her right away and told her two things are going to happen. 1st she was gonna go into the bathroom and yell at the mirror and 2nd I was gonna leave for a couple of hours. When I came back I asked if she was done yelling and we sat down and talked about what was bugging her. That was over 20yrs ago and in the last 25yrs we started to raise our voices twice, before we stopped and decided to talk. She was raised in a family that yelled all the time and I was raised you don't yell during a disagreement because you will say something you can't take back. It's ok to disagree, but not to yell at the one you love enough to be married to.

A few years back an OLD man I was familiar with said; “been married 65+years and never had a fight with my wife. Every time I see a fight coming I go for a walk, and that’s why I’ve lived so long (95+) I walked a lot.” Another very wise man recommended: never play win/lose...because someone going to loose. In May we celebrate 50 years of marital bliss. Oh... and she’s been very very supportive of me buying lots of guns ....ten +. Kinda a long story... later

After almost fifty years of marriage (in June), my husband and I have discovered that probably 90% of the things that start an argument between us are stupid and not worth the emotional effort. We step back. We don’t get personal. Even if we can’t resolve an issue before bedtime, we say I love you. We might not feel it, but we say it. I want to thank you for taking the courage to upload this. It takes a lot where you have a lot of viewers that may not be open or willing to hear what can truly help others. I was not expecting to receive a spiritual message before going to bed (always watching and researching guns and training videos.) My wife and I have been married for 4 years now, which we have hard times and stress, especially with money, BUT: we made ground rules as stated in the video. Never go to bed angry, always share your love for each other through daily compliments, and include a mediator. And for us, we try and include the Great Mediator.

As a single man, I've watched and learned from couples over the years, on marriage and family. One piece of advice Ben Shapiro gave during a Q&A was, if you and your spouse share the same moral values, then your marriage can survive anything. Other things like: using the words we, us, and ours tend to help when talking about anything, admitting that there is a chance that you might be wrong when arguing, and never make important decisions when angry.

You guys touched on this a bit and I was happy to see it. When my wonderful wife and I get into a heated disagreement where one or neither of us are in a good place to be productive, one or the other will just say "let's put this on the shelf for now." Naturally we don't leave it there forever, but come back to it as soon as is reasonable. This works for us not just in disagreements but in planning for the future, or big questions we might ask each other. If we dont know how to word the answer, instead of being pressured for an answer and saying something we dont mean, we can give ourselves time to say exactly what we think or feel. Communication is HUGE. So we are slowly doing what we can to be better in that regard, and be there for each other in it. I hope someone found this long rant helpful lol. Didnt mean to go so long.

This is great stuff! My wife and I are coming up on 2 years of marriage and just had our first baby. We apply a lot of these things in our relationship already. We are fortunate to have good role models and experienced couples in our life to pour into us. When we fight, we fight to reach an agreement, we’re a team and if one of us feels like we lost, we both did. And we always go to bed together at the end of the day, and nobody ever gets sent to the couch.

I watched a vid on KZbin a while back. It was a talk given by a woman who is a marriage counselor and talking about tips for a successful relationship. She said much that made sense but the one thing I really liked, is that when you fight, you can not seek to hurt your partner with harsh words and you can only fight in the bedroom, naked! The preacher who performed our ceremony when we got married 48 yrs ago, gave us the advice of, "Never go to bed angry, as if you do when you get up the next morning I don't want to be the SOB who caused all of this." And he said the words and he meant it too. He also advised us to never get angry and sleep in separate beds either. He said that when you do that, you aren't connecting at night, even if you are sleeping you are connecting, but if you are sleeping in separate beds when you are angry. We have lived these rules and never done either one. I really enjoyed this video and we learn much from these videos and enjoy them too.

Been married for 26 years, very happy in my marriage, not all the time, but very happy. She and I were raised in church, although we don’t attend any church, some of the early teaching I believe have stuck. I question a lot of religious beliefs as I am a deep thinker, but I believe what y’all are putting out is really good stuff, marriage is work at times, it’s easy at times, but it’s a partnership it can only work that way. It’s a lot of give and take. Mostly giving believe me, at least you feel that way(each of you) Idk why people just give up so easy these days, They either never truly loved the other or they are so selfish that they think it will be greener pastures across that fence. I love my wife she doesn’t exactly look the same to others as when we got married and two kids later.but she does to me. Anyway I know y’all put a lot in god (christen beliefs) but some people could use these ideas to help their marriage without so much biblical narrative too. Not knocking it believe me just feel people need to take marriage much much more seriously, to easy to quit, people got no grit anymore, me and mine just aren’t quitters I guess.
