Wow, is this version performed by the composer himself and Judith Engel? Such an impressive piece to be played with four hands! I wish I were able to play the piano like that but I'm nowhere near their abilities :( The performance is stellar, but sadly the sound is recorded a bit too small.

I'm not a pianist but I'm curious to ask, why do he use his left hand to go on the right ?

so that the left hand didn't have as much to do, I think? idk though also, as the right and left hands are mirror images of each other, some melodies are easier to play on one hand

The right hand has a pattern and it would be awkward to switch the pattern between hands It would also create two jumps in both hands instead of one jump in only the left hand
