I would add a large percentage of that mix to the conditions as well. Side onshore wind, shoulder high waves nice and spaced out and flat on the inside. Perfect to have fun on the Windsurfer. I loved the crossovers on the shared wave.

So good to see this! I was lucky enough to be sailing with Spotty when he did his 32 knots on that LT. Pretty sure he managed a 45+knot 5x10 on his speed gear the same day. Spotty is a true blue Aussie legend!

What a beast!! I always wondered how today’s windsurfer would manage with an old board and now I have the answer. It’s simply awesome. It does take a lot of strength to manage in those winds, kudos to Spotty for handling it, he is surely no kid! BTW, anybody noticed the double loop at 9:25?

Interesting setup, mast base completely to the back and without using the daggerboard. I always wonder when to use it and when to skip. But with 68kg I could not manage these windy conditions I think. Still love the LT as in Baltic Sea we most often have light winds around 10-15kts.

I have a windsurfer LT and I agree with the lad interviewed, getting tons of enjoyment out of it. he mentioned at times using a different fin (that would be my only tiny gripe with the kit, the sold fin is not bad, but not great either). Wondering what fin he is using as alternative.

My wife (now wife - in 1982 my girlfriend) are windsurfers. My wife had a Ten Cate back in the days before F2 and waveboards ect.(my hey-days). So I had to get her a Windsurfer LT a couple of years ago for her birthday! Its kind of a family thing now, even our son rides it occasionally. We know five others in the community who ride too. And take part in competitions.

That's brave in such a sea state without foot straps and hooked in all the time. Why did he leave the dagger board on the beach? Is that for weight reasons or fear of losing it? If you don't use it, you can just retract it...

My first board (door) was a BIC, you must carry it too the water with two people (it was made from the same plastic as the Tupperware boxes :-P) otherwise you get pain in your back. And the mast boom connection was with a rope ......so you must reset it a couple off times, or you must set the rope very short with the risk you break your mast.

Are those gybs achieved with pressure on the leeward rail similar to short boards?

Funny you should ask today I actually went out on the LT in about 15 to 18 knots. It was the first time I tried to carve gybe the board. My first attempt failed miserably because I didn’t put my rear foot back far enough. You need to put the rear foot quite far back and quite far to the inside rail, but it does actually go around pretty good once you have the technique.

@@windsurferI did wonder whether the trick was to be well back. I tried it yesterday and the board did nothing. Just kept going in a straight line so I watched this video again and thought no he is definately grabbing a load of leyward rail but only when he is aft of the daggerboard.

Absolutely awesome. Too many of us get so hung up on having the “right”board for the given conditions. Screw it, just get out on what you got and give’er. This proves it. You can have fun on anything with the right attitude and obviously some serious skill. He was having way more success powering through lulls and heading upwind, and likely more fun. Thanks for the video…sheer joy to watch. I had a cassette version of the Windsurfer in the early 1980’s, sailing Middle Harbour off Clontarf out to the Heads. If not there, Narrabeen Lakes or Pittwater off Palm Beach. Sailed most afternoons till the light faded. Some fast sailing, some ended up just cruising…either way, I loved it! 64 yo now…just thinking, I might just jump back into Windsurfing again.

I use to take my Starboard Cruiser 12’6” out with a Sailworks Retro 6.5 at Hood River, boy did I get some looks! I really enjoyed it. Couldn’t keep the nose down very well. Love this type of sailing😎🇲🇽

When I saw the thumbnail I thought "no way... could it be the Legendary Spotty at Coronation???" And yes I was right! I sailed and camped with him there back in 2019. Such a cool guy and of course incredible sailor Even back in 2019 everyone would go on about Spotty doing 30 knots on the one design 😆
