VAR has a good concept. it's the way that it's used that angers the people. For example, if VAR was there in the time Ronaldo scored the goal against Spain and the goal was disallowed because Nani was said to be offside, when he wasn't, the goal would stand. But then there are negative aspects were, for example, Kane was recently called offside by 1 or 2 millimetres. It's a win-loss relationship with VAR.

I think for penalties, sending offs etc, VAR has sorted itself out and gets the vast majority of things right. But for offside, they need to change the laws to adapt to VAR. Maybe they need to be a full foot offside? Or if it's not apparent to the naked eye then stick to the original decision instead of bringing out the lines and graphs?

With VAR I have always thought that an interesting solution would be if the managers had a single challenge per game that they could use if they felt that a foul had been committed prior to a goal or a player was offside, like in the NFL. If a challenge is successful the managers challenge is retained, if not the manager is charged with a sub. Just a thought

VAR has benefitted us (Southampton) a lot this season but I don’t think it’s used correctly. You can look at the argument that, regardless of how fine the margin is, if a player is offside, they are offside but it’s almost impossible for players to know that there ankle, elbow, toe etc. is offside. The whole reason VAR was brought in was to correct ‘clear and obvious errors’ and hardly any VAR decisions have been obvious errors

I think VAR should be used in cup competitions and major tournaments but not in a league format. I think in the grand scheme of things the centimeters/millimeters someone is offsides or the accidental handballs work themselves out in the long run of a season. The good calls will even out the bad calls over time and the best teams will come out on top by the end of the year.

I like VAR to a degree, but they should change the offside rule so if any part of your body is still onside then you can’t be given as offside. This would cut down the amount of millimetre decisions. Also, the offside rule was brought in to stop people gaining an advantage by goal hanging, being a centre meter offside isn’t an advantage
