The golden years of FIFA! From FIFA '98 to around FIFA 2001/FIFA 2002'ish.. That was the golden age of FIFA. During those years, I played these games, religiously.. From about 2002 onwards, I switched to PES (PS2) and didn't come back to FIFA, til' around FIFA 07. Oh to go back to these days of FIFA and relive them for the first time, all over again.. "Goodness! What I liked in this game is that there was a button with which you could punch and kick other players. It often ended with a red card but was fun.

I was playing this earlier, Man Utd Vs Barcelona. The match was 1-1 and in the 90th minute they fouled David Beckham just outside the penalty area, free kick in the top corner was deflected only for Sheringham to place it into the net to win the match, Good times.

I now decided to take a desperate step, nostalgia and the world cup in qatar made me go through all the parts of the main parts of FIFA and I can say that this is the 1st FIFA that feels like a good game, here is the basis on which the whole series will grow later, this is an intro under Blur 2, these screensavers, these stadiums, they captured the spirit of world football, the game itself was arcade and fun (which is better than a simulation because it's fun), I really liked just playing and scoring, clear passes, finally a normal system of taking the ball away, of course very long-range shots didn’t pass (in fifa 97 it was possible to hit and score easily from half the field), but how clearly everything worked, the game finally started to look decent for 3d FIFA and everything is right here, even the license in music and the general style and the amount of content determined the future of the series from this part in my opinion .. and my god, my first world cup and this Brazil with Ronaldo, I still think that they had the strongest team in the world at that time .. would bring it back a time when you could just play with friends and no multiplayer, ultimate team, pay to win and world problems for you .. This is truly begin of FIFA greatness.

This game looked best on PC. It's a shame that Fifa 98 lags like hell on anything after Win 98 for some reason. It's unbelievable, but try as we all might, it just won't work on modern PCs.
