I would buy this simply because i like the whole package. Why do some people feel the need to redline and thrash cars all the time? I drive brisk when i NEED to. The fun in a car like this is enjoying normal driving ( roads do have speed limits ! ), and having enough power to overtake etc on a Sunday run out etc. to be honest, it could have 500 bhp and some folk wouldn't be happy. No pleasing some people. My advice is if you don't like it, then don't buy it :)

Indeed, u r absolutely wright. I got my gt86 (in orange) three weeks ago. And even when you're doing 60 mph, it is much fun to drive. The seating position is very low, you can see a bit of the nice curving of the hoot, the seats are really holding you, shifting gear is very short and fast, turning corners is very easy due to the low point of gravity and when you do decide you have to accelerate, my god , the sound of the engine is really nice. And believe me, there certainly is a lot of power. I live in belgium, up untill now i have seen just one other gt86, there aren't that many gt's sold here, so people look a little strange when they pass. Can also be because it's a nice car, really it is..

Did you buy it with stock parts, or custom parts? I've been having a look around at trying to get one at about $27k AUD as it looks like a really nice car, and its pretty common to see used ones with aftermarket turbo and stuff to make it much more powerful (out of my price range though).

I agree. This car is all about balance and if you don't want to understand this about the 86/BRZ then go and buy a Mustang or Z. I just bought a MY14 with 15,000km on the clock and I am in love with this car. It is so much fun to drive at any speed and when you want to push it I find it very accessible - I wouldn't have the talent to handle this car at its absolute limit yet alone with more power. I like that I can wring its neck and belt around corners way faster than I can in any other car I have ever owned and do it comfortably. On stock tyres it understeers when pushed but you can fix this with a decent set of tyres - I have Bridgestone Potenza RE003's on mine and it has way more grip than it did on the stock rubber. It is just a fabulous car.

You did see the test between the M3 and the 2011 Mustang GT with the track pack option, right? The lap time for the ZL-1 around the Ring is around a 7:43, pretty impressive for a mythical car.

I don't know what this guy is talking about. My FR-S also has great power for a 2.0L engine. Torque and throttle response is excellent. It's very nimble and sharp, comparable to my Z4M coupe in handling for sure! This is an excellent sports car. 9/10 for sure!

Correct me if I'm wrong but in a boxer engine, wouldn't the pistons rather fire TOWARDS each other?

+SR300FM No, they fire away from each other.
@SR300FM
@SR300FM 9 жыл бұрын
But then I don't quite get it, because the crank is in the middle with 2 cylinders on each side. When it fires, the piston moves towards the middle i.e. the crank. Or, do you mean by "firing away" that when 1 piston moves towards the crank, the opposite one is then fired away ?

Well, two cranks would increase weight and difficulty to replace, and it would be less balanced

ggah97 is on the mark. Toyota designed it, gave the direct injection technology for the engine and donated a modified Lexus IS-F auto-transmission. Engine, and chassis are built from scratch by Subaru and all 3, GT86, FRS and BRZ are made in the Subaru Gunma factory.

ok yes the FT86 didnt have a 86X86 bore and stock, but the subura engine does, this car is design to proform like the AE86 and the 2000gt. P.S the name AE86 means Toyota code, the "A" represents the engine that came in the car (4A series), "E" represents the Corolla, "8" represents the fifth generation (E80 series) and "6" represents the variation within this generation. now im such you know that, know explan your theory

I've now done just over 20 000km in my BRZ which is a lot of driving. Great car, and it makes my life a bit more fun every day :). But when you put your foot down not enough comes out, that's a fact. More power would be cool. But if t had more power I would not have bought it because I bet it would have increased the cost of the car. Anyone who knows a bit about cars can do it up to whatever spec you like! Duh. I drive long distance and the fuel economy on this car is great. 10/10 for what it is

This car, i think, does not have too much power because Toyota made it in a way that allows the owner to tune it. I think they know that the power is not enough (according to the presenter of course) and this was the idea. They simply wanted it to have potential. Just like Nissan did with their GTR. It is fast but it can be tunned to amazing levels and to become even more fast and exciting. So, this is what i think :)

Back in the days, i owned a VW Golf II GTI 16v with 110kW. That little go-cart was so much more aggressive. In 2nd gear, it pulled to 110km/h, which is really not bad. And it was like a go-cart in the corners. Only, it had front drive, so sliding that, you had to work it. But it was fast for such a car. And it sounded so good with only a stock pipe, and a K&N Air-filter, especially in higher revs, it sounded so deep... Where are the days, only 23 back then... Oh well...

No it doesnt compete because those are muscle cars and lets face it Camaro's and Mustangs are not aswel engineered as Euro or Jap cars, don't forget american muscle cars are cheap for a reason that is just a fact. But look ive driven the GT86 many times, ive experienced it as a sports car and as an everyday run around and I like it. It does what it was designed to. Lets also not forget it only cost €41,000 (£25,000). But anyway no point arguing over this because it's all about taste and opinion.

In terms of performance, it wont be much faster in a straight line. I have the Corolla with the 190 engine in it, and a GT86 couldn't get away from me tonight. Being rear drive, it will probably out handle the FWD Celica, and definitely out handle a Corolla.

Well yeah. Cause this car isn't about 0-60 time. It's not about setting a fantastic time around a track. It's about fun. Cheap fun at that. They've created a relativity cheap, rear wheel drive car, and handles great. If you want something fast in a straight line and around a track, there's nothing stopping you getting a GT-R. There's more to cars than 0-60 time.

IF The 86 was in the states it would be 30k and the dealer mark up would be crazy. That would also hurt sales. Making the FRS made positive the car would be affordable to Americans. It has to sale in large numbers in the states for the cars to make a profit. You can by an FRS today for 25k in the states. It only comes one way. Look at how much mark up is on the BRZ in the states. They made the right move. Badge snobs can buy the BRZ.

Yeah, but when you have someone skilled with RXs it is no problem with reliability and the price difference is crazy. I am not at all saying anything bad about GT and BRZ - they are great and new and more reliable and fun. But RX is slightly more in some areas but with some setbacks. :-) Love mine RX so no need to get the new TOYOBARU. Love both.

@Rusiputki
@Rusiputki 11 жыл бұрын
People praise the Scion because it's RWD and it's lightweight, 2 factors that no longer exist in 2013. Most cars are over 1500kg now a days and have too many electric aids and luxury. Hell even the RX8 is heavy for what it is, my E36 comes at pretty much the same weight as that car (1340kg) and it's a lot more weight reduction capable once you put it on a diet.

It is the new AE86. I agree with you that Toyota is being weird by justifying the 86 moniker with the 86x86 bore/stroke since the BEAMS 3SGE also had an 86x86 bore/stroke. Sadly the weight is unavoidable because of the higher safety standards, since it doesn't look to have anything unnecessary at all. Although it does (in japan) COST the same as the AE86. I'm guessing toyota doesn't want to call it the new 86 because that might hurt BRZ sales. But really its obvious what inspired it really..

Im sorry to say but as an actual experienced LPG owner (donkeys years) and now moving to methan gas which is even cheaper, thats not the case. You will loose power, and economy will actually go up a bit, say you were doing 10l/100km with gas it will got to 12l/100km. But my whole question was why buy a fast car to LPG it. You will make it heavy and gutless. Buy something like touring that has best of both worlds, well minus handling.

You obviously missed the point of the car. Personally i was thinking about buying one and had the same reservations, too slow i thought. Coming from twin turbo audi's, R34 GTR's and supercharged v8's. I was both wrong and right, it is slow, and lacks low end torque, but it was so god dam fun to drive in the twisties i just didn't care, the steering is perfectly weighted, the brakes strong, the car light and nimble. It won't set any track records but i guarantee the owners wont care one bit

While the toyota only came about through proper petrol heads in toyota holding the accountants and sales managers by the balls so they can build a proper sports car. More importantly... it's balanced! If you don't have enough power, you are either in the wrong car or the wrong gear. Having no torque forces you to learn how drive drive the old way, with technique & skill. Modern cars are made for idiots who just mash the pedal in any gear and expect things to happen = for people chasing paper stats, not characteristics.
