Only been there once and what a blessing. Leaving Manhattan Kansas to drive to New Orleans my friend and I stayed our first night in Austin. We got word that a hurricane (Katrina) was headed directly towards New Orleans so we had a decision to make. We broke west to Terlingua plan B as we learned the Chili Cook Off was going on. Oh my what a blessing, memories and trip! I found myself on the stage w/ Gary P. Nunn that evening having a blast.

Your film makes me want to go to Texas, and to eat some chili (tho I prefer mine with beans)! Looks like a fun time among nice people, in a beautiful setting. Good job, Travis, et al.!

The connection between chili and a good party makes a lot of sense. Also, you can not be all stuffy and sophisticated when your nose is running like a prize race horse! LOL

Guys, I need a recipe please 😅
@runningwildfilms2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately their recipes are secret BUT you should read the book written by the guy who founded the cook off. It's called A Bowl of Red

Chili was created by the Tobin Family in San Antonio Texas. I have a can of Tobin's Chili Con Carne in my man cave.

Nope. If you paid attention, chili was created by the Chili Queens of the Alamo Plaza.
