Nice rooting set up. Does the wax inhibit buds from coming through it? I use Tanglefoot Tree Wound Pruning Sealer & Grafting Compound and works great. Keep them videos coming . Vinny

Hey Vinny. The buds have no problem whatsoever pushing through the wax. We only do a quick dip (1 layer) in the wax so that the wax is thin. It's been working great. Glad to hear that the tanglefoot works well for you. That's awesome :)

Great video! Do you rotate your cuttings back indoors when the UV is high or when it rains or do you just leave them out in the weather once you start your outdoor process? I'm very hesitant to move my cuttings into full sun or full rain for fear of stem root. Sometimes I wait a full 6-8 weeks before full exposure here in 9A/NE Florida. Thanks again for the great video...very helpful....

Hey Darris. If the heat/UV gets too overwhelming for the cuttings, we‘ll move them onto a shaded patio. It rarely rains in our region but when it does, we’ll move the cuttings under the protected patio so they don’t get drenched. For the most part, we’ve been leaving all of our potted cuttings out in full sun, which we’ve had success with. I think your approach of waiting 6-8 weeks until exposing them to full sun is both smart and safe and I believe that’s a good way to go. We’re experimenting this year, which is why we’ve left ours in full sun since day one.

I started mine indoors about a month ago, but now need to worry about transitioning them outside. Next season I am just going to start them all outside like you, looks like a much lower stress method! Are you only bottom watering them?

We started our first batch indoors as well and that came with all sorts of issues (fungus gnats mostly). We mainly bottom water but we also keep the top soil moist with a quick spray every now-and-then. We will likely mulch the top of each pot to retain moisture.

@@greenshootsnursery3213 Makes sense. I watered mine indoors with Gnatrol which kept the gnats down a fair bit, but I still have some. Any suggestions on transitioning them outside? Most of mine are leafed out already, but not quite to the amount yours are yet.

I’d keep them in shade outdoors for a week before transitioning to partial sun for another 1-2 weeks before you make the full transition to full sun. These waiting periods have worked well for us.

How cold does it get at night where you are at? What’s the coldest temp your cuttings have seen. I’m experimenting rooting some of my cuttings outdoors in northern ca 9b where it gets down to the mid 30’s

It hasn't been terribly cold in our area. Nights get down to high 40's, low 50's. Not too bad at all. Let us know how your experiment works out. Would love to hear the results.

Green Shoots Nursery do you start the rooting process indoors or do the whole process outside? What month did you start your cuttings. I’m doing some single node cuttings that seem to be working and I did some bm bud grafts on panache cuttings that seem to be rooting better than the regular bm cuttings . It’s helpful to see your process since your in a warmer area. Your plants look great.

We started our first batch indoors in late December/early January. For our latest batch, they will be kept outside during the entire rooting process. Really curious to hear how your single node cuttings work out....we were debating about trying that this year. Panache is both a vigorous rooter and a vigorous grower so I think that was a good choice on your part to graft BM to it.
