Hi David, I have had the larger version for months now. The strap unfortunately does not support any weight in this larger bag. The brass buttons pop out of the holes on the adjustable strap as you are carrying. I contacted them and they sent me another strap and the problem persisted. I took it to a tailor and had it permanently sewn. I do really enjoy this bag and I got it because the smaller size was just too small for work.

Nice looking bag. I wish they did a non-leather alternative.

I have had this exact same bag for over a year. Not a bag I use for work but for writing and like a large pencil case or sorts. The only time it leaves home is if I go to the library to do some work (throw in papers, laptop…). I am glad that I squeezed out the extra cash for the XL and I recommend it. I had to shoe glue the lid as the top of the leather split in a few places but not noticeable now (easily done and I found Galen leather gave good advice). The strap is a problem as others have indicated, if I were to carry it around more, then I would buy a shoulder pad (like the one on the old Fender guitar straps). So it is expensive if you need to upgrade something that is costly in the first place. TBH I love this bag and use it everyday. BTW it is “Galen Leather” not Vegan so no point calling them out on that. Galen are excellent in advising and responding promptly. Thanks for the review, excellent in honesty and clarity.

Thanks for the review; I keep seeing this medic bag being advertised and was wondering what it's like. AU$500 is a bit eye watering though! 😭

Don’t know if this helps but I received an educators discount 10% I recall. You might be able to see if there’s anything on offer.

Funny thing is i just got mine delivered yesterday. Turkey to Australia in like 6 days. Looking up your review of the last one really influenced the decision. I can recommend this already compared to the last as it fits a laptop easily :) Also, mine came with a second larger strap for making a backpack, though tbh side wearing is much easier for me at least.

I've had my XL medic bag for a bit over a month and I love it, although I had to do some modifying with the strap. I wanted to use it as a backpack when I'm on my bike but the process of having to undo the strap on one side to weave it in was a pain. I added a ring clasp to the bottom loop so that I can attach and release the strap more easily I also used some of the wider added screws that shipped with mine to make the strap attachment more sturdy after it came undone a few times. No problems since.

I can attest to the fact that they are prompt to respond and offer advice. I am surprised to read that. I only chimed in because I have had issues with some companies but was left happily impressed by Galen. Good luck.

For me it is over organised and far too expensive. The price is similar to a well finished product (full grain leather, nicely finished with stitching, lining and fittings etc). This is styled as 'rustic' saving all of those added costs. The phone pocket isn't so very useful. Most phone pockets quickly become redundant as phone change shape and get larger and do we really want to put our phone where we can't quickly access it? This is so not for me, but others might like it. I would add, I have more confidence in those channels which state when an item is a sponsorship item with limitations on what can be said and what not. It is well understood by viewers that companies giving sponsorship products make the vlogger sign very strict agreements, usually completely blocking any criticism at all. Please be more upfront on this. .

to me, their products just seem like they stitch leather together, call it rustic without doing anything unique to it, give you belt loops instead of actual sewn in straps, and price it at $500 for the "antique/vintage look". I don't even get the practicality of handling something like this over wearing a backpack. You'd look extremely goofy walking into a modern building with a $500 leather sack over a $15 backpack off amazon.

I love this bag, so much but if i'm being brutally honest with myself I know that it goes far beyond my requirements and I can't really justify spending this much just because it's gorgeous. I will try and content myself with the zippered portfolio i've very recently ordered instead. Man if I was to win the lottery I would spend so much on pens and related items.

I have learned so much from your vlogs. Thank you. However I am thinking of unsubscribing. You never state the impact of sponsorship and influence on your vlogs. Is this a sponsored item? Additionally I learn from elsewhere about the quality issues of companies like Visconti and Aurora which you have heavily promoted. Sometimes I buy an item you have praise highly and find the product not to be so very great for the money. The KZbin algorithm and sponsorship driven vlogs tend to produce vloggers who end up in entertainment rather than their suposed aim. Do tell me I am wrong here.

In every review, at some point I state how the product was acquired. If I purchased it myself, or it was something provided by a company. The manner in which it was obtained has no bearing on the review whatsoever. When searching the internet, you can find folks with "quality issues" for just about every product out there. With Visconti, for example, there was a period of time about 4-5 years ago where the quality assurance was significantly lacking. And I discussed this several times during reviews of their products. Over the past few years, the quality issues have been (in my opinion) significantly diminished...but it takes a long time to change a negative perception. I am not afraid to be critical of a product when necessary...but in general, I'm a very positive person...so my reviews tend to skew to the positive side of things. Sometimes I can talk about an issue in a pleasant tone which doesn't come across as bashing or critical...but still brings up the relevant information required for you to make a purchasing decision. The bottom line is that regardless of how a product is obtained, I strive to provide fair and accurate information. I am catering to viewers...not manufacturers. While I hope my videos are entertaining...by no means do I consider them to be entertainment only.

@@FigbootonPens @Figboot on Pens I think the issue is that in most KZbin fields loaned items and sponsorships come with very strict strings about not criticising the product. Are you saying you are not so constrained? I do hear you when you say you provide fair and accurate information and that does comes across. It's just that I keep getting rude shocks when I dig a little deeper with other similarly authoritative sources. I wish you well, you are clearly a decent guy and I respect that. And, it's always a pleasure watching your very professional productions and the authentic ambience which you create.

@@kevinu.k.7042 No strings have ever come with any loaned or provided product. I would not agree to review a product which came with any stipulations or restrictions.

@Palash Person I suppose when you've dealt with Russian surplus and other military oddities, you'd be experienced to do it just as well for youtube video. As for sponsorship, I do think that David is rather positively passionate about Galen's products and other small production number items pertained to this hobby(like Tamenuri), but that still doesn't mean the lack of criticism; I've my share of dodgy utility/fashion products being sold upmarket then everyone copies and produces too much that sometimes someone sells it for dirt cheap and the next time people are confusing cheap and quality with their wishful thinking, eventually discouraging the market and consequently the industry's passion in its entirety. I use $4 jewelry case that I filled with +$100 fountain pens and my handmade pen sleeves/kimonos that I can't see myself selling them for $5 each(single crafter vs larger scale manufacture cost buffer), it's a crazy world, but this is a hobby and we'd find whatever people and ourselves call fair for the price, perhaps leaning not as much as towards being hostile because we already have to choose with self educating ourselves and the money we use to support the market-industry-hobby fanbase
