Fight from film - The Bridge - (Dir. Bernhard Wikki 1959)

In the spring of 1945, Nazi Germany, on the brink of military defeat and having almost exhausted its mobilization resources, calls up teenagers to join the armed forces. The former schoolchildren are poorly trained, but ideologically motivated and ready to fight to the death. The story revolves around a group of teenagers, recently drafted into the army, who are sent to guard a bridge that has little strategic significance. But as a result of regrouping at the front, the boys unexpectedly encounter superior enemy forces.

With this equipment, the three "Shermans" could easily have been surprised and shot down without losing a single soldier. The unprotected American infantrymen could also have been killed with the MG42 at the same time. A very poor performance, especially since they knew the terrain and had enough time to prepare.

There were 16 year olds, had only been trained for one day…..that was the point. It was based on a true story btw.

@@stuartlester7586 They had basic military training for month in the Hitlerjugend, You can´t learn to handle a MG42, a StG44 and a Panzerfaust in just one day. It´s a film and they want to show that they had non chance. During the fight for Regensburg in April 1945 young SS soldiers "Nibelungen" stopped two American assaults over the river Danube at Abbach. It was and is possible to resist with proper motivation and armament - it doesn´t depend on age.

They appear to be T-34 chassis that have been mocked up to look like Shermans, and not very well at that.

Pretending M4A1 (cast hull), at a closer look the wheels of a car are visible underneath the lower hull. The attempt to conceal that with a drop shadow camouflage was futile. But consider that the movie was produced in 1959! The 2008 remake uses a swiss Panzer 68 and a Sherman with british markings. That movie is really crappy.

The way the Germans prepare for battle reminds me of Private Ryan in the scene where they fought the Germans in the bombed out town. And I don't know what the tanks are supposed to be, but they are far too wide to be anything like a Sherman.

The Wehrmacht's demolition squad tried to blow up the bridge after the battle and one of the two surviving kids went crazy and shot the old soldier and got also shot by the two other soldiers from the demo-team while they were fleeing with the Kübelwagen... so the bridge remained intact... the end... Yes... the ending was a bit stupid...:)
