i've been dealing with anxiety and wanted to learn more about the fight or flight response to try to understand what is wrong with me, but watching this video and learning how complex this process is, actually helped me feel grateful for all that my body does to try to keep me safe. it's like i realized that my body is just trying to help. kinda cute if you think about it like that
@rakeshsinghprs

I'm dealing with the anxiety myself and trying to understand why I'm always anxious, why when I'm anxious I start biting my nails. I'm trying to find root cause reason and i think maybe these are my reasons. I have moderate memory recall and slow/moderate comprehension of things. So I believe if i fix those by taking some supplements like Choline (Eggs or Alpha GPC) will resolve my anxiety. See when you compare my symptoms to others, how is it they are not anxious all the time, one i think their brain have better comprehension and memory and hence their brain knows when to send adrenaline or epinephrine, which in my case maybe not and hence sending wrong signals causing anxious. Does above reasoning makes sense? Let me know your root cause reasons.

Michelle 2856 That's messed up if they are blaming it on you, but at least you understand how bad Anxiety is, I've seen some comments from teensagers, and younger kids, saying their parents doesn't understand or think they are just being lazy, I don't blame you or you're son for being scared it sucks being like this, I'm on my 8th months, waking up everyday wondering what happened to me, and why am I scared of the littleist things. Ask your son to write down his feelings but don't rush him into it, maybe you'll get an idea of what's happening in school

Thanks for the clarification about when and why adrenaline/epinephrine comes into play. Cool to know that the nervous system and muscular system are responsible for that _initial_ quick response, and the adrenaline comes into play moments later in order to "fuel" the body's ability to _continue_ to respond if the threat also continues. Also, that revelation at 5:18 that all these different systems have evolved to use _one_ chemical in different...and sometimes even opposite...ways (maximizing efficiency of response) is mind-blowingly awesome!

Once I went to visit my aunt and she has a big labrador dog that had never seen me before. We were just chilling in the garden and I went to wash my hands then the dog came to me and stood there ( he was a big dog around 50 kilograms), then suddenly out of nowhere he started growling and jumped to fetch my arm and I automatically snapped my hand backwards and then pushed the dog away from it's throat with a back hand in like half a second. I never knew my body could move that fast. I was just amazed and shocked at the same time.

When you said that's the way "our body is designed," I agree. I was in one of these situations yesterday; almost having drowned. Without being cheesy and religious, the body is fearfully and wonderfully made. I have no doubt that biochemically, we're the product of a loving creator, not evolution.

Nature is utterly amazing, but for me it is even more delightful to understand how each of its components evolved over the course of millions of years with natural selection. Still there are phenomena that did not evolved that efficiently, check out Rubisco function on photosynthesis: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYKuZIyoabiWlc0 Hank concludes the storytime of it with: another example of unintelligent design 🖤

@anteconfig5391

I've experienced fight or flight many times, but one time in particular I felt like my heart was in my throat. I think I felt that way because I ran so fast and I was expecting to go really far but I ended up stopping short and hiding behind a building about 50ft away. (I was with friends, running from security at some "haunted site" on long island) But I also think that my heart was beating so hard because I couldn't believe that I was following an illogical tactic touted by someone I regarded as stupid. His idea was to hide, essentially behind the bushes, 10 feet away from the road. The road which we were spotted on. A road which was a dead end.

in my experience if the flight reaction comes at any point, you will seize even if you choose to fight. if your only mental response to your body is to fight, you tend to be able to maintain some fine motor skills. does anyone have any response to this idea i have? i got into a fight 2 weeks ago and i didn't feel any "flight" feeling. i just decided right away i would hurt the guy.

No, because it depends of the situations you are in, I was for example in a forest one time just hiking, and suddenly all around me branches started snapping so I went into panic mode I didn't flee right away, but when I thought that there were mountain lions in the area I bolted, no question, other time I was in my classroom and a girl sicked her boyfriend onto me, he was stronger bigger and a better fighter, I also didn't want to fight me being a coward and all, but I had nowhere to run to, so all I had left was to fight, and I fought like hell and won, a cornered animal fights twice as fiercely after all
@bryanslocks3481
@bryanslocks3481 5 жыл бұрын
You decide it in split second either to flee or to fight. By the time you ask yourself, should I fight or run? You’d already be gone or already have punched the guy. So if you never feel flight than that means you’re always feeling fight.

Wonder if the adrenal secretion system is an evolutionary dying phenomenon in western society since we hardly ever face any physical threats anymore and the adrenal medulla blindly fires as an old habit of our ancestors being in almost constant danger; as a consequence we suffer from genearlized anxiety because the ForF response is disregarded so frequently.

Hi. I want to ask you some questions, because some things are not very clear. So you talk about the fight and flight response, but you say, that the guy getting out of the way of the car doesn't have to do anything with the fight and flight response, it's just the nerves and the muscles. Later on you talk about, how the fight and flight response helped the guy to get out of the way of the car. So I'm a bit confused now, is it or is it not the fight and flight response that helps him? You also talk about adrenaline, and that it's not adrenaline that helps him to get out of the way, because adrenaline couldn't get so fast there. Later on, you talk about how the hypothalamus sends a message to the adrenal medulla which creates adrenaline. So this again it's confusing, because you said it's not adrenaline, what helps the guy. So can you explain these things more clearly please? Thank you!

Hello! Thank you very much for this video! I have a question though, I think I am a bit confused about the function of adrenalin and noradrenalin. The stimulation of the sympathetic nervous System stimulates the gland to release noradrenalin and adrenalin, and the two work on a different cells. Can you explain these function of the two? As they don't stimulate the same cardiac cells I am a bit confused... Thank you !

Shani Drori : actually you are wrong! adrenalin and noradrenalin both are released from nerve endings but actually only the "adrenalin" is released from the "adrenal medulla" , not the noradrenalin.! ... but yes even noradrenalin is coming from nerve ending during fight and flight response and working on the body. And one last thing: the functions of both of them are same. hope this helps!
