FIGHTER BOYS Exploring PHILIPPINES HAPPY ISLAND Life | Batanes or Catanduanes!?

It was time for the Fighter Boys to explore a new island Province off the coast of Bicol in the Philippines... Welcome to the "Happy Island". Yes, that is the name given to Catanduanes, the 12th biggest island in the Philippines!
When Daniel Marsh and I first started exploring this Province and its coastlines... of course we thought a bit about Batanes. But this is not Batanes... THIS IS CATANDUANES!
They call this place the Happy Island... and for good reason!! The vibes were absolutely incredible! It was amazing stopping and interacting with locals as we drove up and down the majestic coastlines! A lot of smiles, a lot of abaca, and a lot of comparisons to Batanes...
Except again... this is a unique place. It is not Batanes... maybe the bigger brother though!

Thank you Kulas for buying the kids some cassava treats. It's affordable to you (all) but not to them even for maybe one piece. I did something similar to a group of nursing students who were with us in a Jeepney after a medical and dental mission in Laguna. I heard them borrowing money from each other for fare. Since we're all heading to the same school campus and no one paid for fare yet I decided to pay for everyone. When I asked the driver how much is fare for everyone and paid it, the students were puzzled but I can see the sigh of relief in their faces. That day, they made it their mission to find out who I am and tracked me and my friends in a mall eating, and thanked us. We all became friends and continue to do so with the power of social media. That was 12 yrs. ago 😊👍✌️🤙

Fact: Abaca tree and banana tree are different though abaca tree looks like banana tree. Abaca tree is known for it's strongest fiber. You can see much less of abaca trees nowadays due to climate change and deforestation. #GoFighterBoys Always supporting locals!

You guys are amazing... This is my wife's island. In fact you are staying at her cousin rental home. (my wife told me this, as her cousin emailed her). We are Canadians too and have enjoyed Cantanduanes many many times. Many more things to see and do there. Have fun. There is a Aussie (handicapped) in Suboc...not far from you. He has amazing stories of the island ( he owned part of the beach you are staying at) and has lived there for 50 years... If you go there say 'hi'..Cheers

uniform and kids remind me of childhood during elementary school days in manila here in the states you could have material things but life is in a rut and redundant bills are life here that's why majority of people here are stressed out and shut off from the rest of the world. i really miss the province life especially the vegetation there's a plant or a grass there that has a unique sweet fragrant smell that always bring back memories i think it's dahong talahib if anyone knows the name of it please let me know, thanks.

No, abaca are NOT used for roofs, Dan. LOL. They're used mostly for ropes (which is why it was famous during the colonial era shipping as "Manila hemp"), baskets, and traditional textiles.

My home province Catanduanes...main product is abaca fiber and supply the world with almost 35%-40 % of workd's abaca fiber demands. Happy lsland because of its people's flexibility in any natural calamities and dusasters that visited the islan province so often... proud to be Katandunganon!!!
