Fighter's History Dynamite (Saturn) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Sega's 1997 versus-fighting game for the Sega Saturn, Fighter's History Dynamite.
The game only ever got a Japanese-market release, but it can be switched into English by changing the game from Japan to Overseas version in the options menu
Played through with Mizoguchi on the normal difficulty level. I also fight the secret boss at the end... odd as it may be.
Fighter's History Dynamite (or Karnov's Revenge, depending on the region of the game) was a good Neo Geo follow-up to one of my favorite SF-clone style fighters. I had this game on the Neo Geo CD for years and played it constantly, and with the RAM cart, the Saturn version is just as good - better, if you take into account how much the loading time was slashed by.
The game is overall a pretty standard mid-90s arcade 2D fighter. It flows well (though I would've preferred they slowed it down just a bit - it's good that they sped it up from the original, but I think it was just a bit too much), it looks pretty good, the ridiculous voices are still ridiculous, and seriously, the game that ends with a hidden last boss like this one deserves at least a raised eye brow or two.
And for the record, I believe that Mizoguchi's death scream has to be one of the best video game sounds ever. Probably not too different from the sound Karnov made during his C-section.

The arranged soundtrack was done by Shogo Sakai, who would later go on to compose for such games as Melee, Kirby Air Ride and Mother 3. Looking back on this... yep, his style definitely shows through here. Karnov's theme basically got turned into Kirby lol (Mizoguchi and Jean's themes were originally made by him as well)

The second FH game on the SNES has another one. Chelnov (from Atomic Runner) is a boss in that game, and there's a code that you can use to play as him. He looks like he's wearing canned pineapple rings around his nipples, but he's a great bonus.

Fighters History Dynamite was the upped version of a Street Fighter II game. Still love it till this day. Mizoguchi = Delinquent version of Ryu. Yung Mie = Restaurant Chun-Li

This game obviously doesn't have as deep a system as SNK or Capcom fighters, but I still like it for some reason. Maybe because it somewhat reeks the amusingly cheeky atmosphere of B-tier action films like Big Trouble in Little China. Or maybe because, more importantly, it has Karnov in it!

I like the background art, some are pretty and clever. BGM are either hit or miss, so Sound FX were annoying, mostly that part where you remove a part of there clothing (but it was clever that a character slightly changed in appearance.

Sadly the only home port of this game besides the Neo Geo CD, and it's not cheap to buy either. But it is a solid title.

Not that expensive compared to some game. It's definitely more than Dbz Shinbutoden or Necronomicon or Fighters Megamix. But its not more expensive than US version Saturn Bomberman or Astra Superstars. I got my copy of Fighters History Dynamite/ Karnovs Revenge for $65 USD. Although it's possible i was lucky

This version doesn't seem to offer alot of modes. The SNES Port of it's predecessor, at least, offer a survival mode.

The port on Snes is actually its own version and last interation of the series. This version is a straight arcade port with enhanced soundtrack.

The arranged soundtrack to FG:KR is straight *FIRE* (😏) but they forgot to add the desperation/near death themes to all the themes! Still, some of these are straight bangers, like Clown's theme ironically!

This is the Saturn game. Did you download the original Neo Geo arcade version by mistake? The Saturn and NeoGeo CD versions used remastered CD audio tracks.

@@BMR86 Hmm, maybe check the options menu? I don't remember if this game has it or not, but there might be an option to switch between the original and remixed music. If your downloaded copy was compressed (like an iso with a bunch of mp3s) that could also really screw the quality. There was a lot of music, so a rip of the game with uncompressed audio (like a .bin+.cue) probably weighs in around the 500-600 megabyte range.
