Bivol won round 7. Beterbiev was hitting gloves most of the time. Bivol got caught with a big punch in round 2 or 3 that was the majority of damage to his face. At the end of the fight Beterbiev himself said, “Of course it was a difficult fight.. Bivol is a skilled boxer.. even better than me.. but Allah chose me today.” This interview showed Beterbiev still attempting to believe the win for himself, you can see him trying to justify it for himself, for example by saying, “I don’t know I’m always critical of myself after fights, even when I get a knockout I’m critical of my skills.” He’s trying to believe he was the better fighter, but he doesn’t believe it. Bivol had the clean shots. They were finding clean shots from Beterbiev to put on the replays. Even the ones they thought were hits were showing misses and blocks. Bivol DID get hit.. but Bivol had more clean shots. Both to the body and head.

What an amazing fight it was everything I thought it would be. i’ve been telling people for months that this fight was gonna play out like Oscar De La Hoya versus Tito Trinidad. it was a masterclass boxing. Bivol fought the distance, used high guard to stay at bay, constantly in n out to create an awkward rythm for beterbiev to not counter(Soviet boxing style). Using his footwork to counter Beterbiev with clean combos to the body and head, out jabbed Beterbiev, and more importantly based on compu box % Bivol landed more and threw less. In my opinion, Bivols boxing skills took away a lot of Beterbiev offensive aggressive skills, "back foot" does not mean he lost, "high guard" does not mean he lost, "front foot pressure" doesn't mean he lost. Bivol displayed discipline defensive tactics to neutralize arguably the strongest hitter/puncher Ib for Ib. Controlling the “pace” and fighting front foot could meaning nothing when shit is not landing cleanly and flush. It's called boxing, and I wished that the judges saw it this way. I'll give the benefit of the doubt in regards to Bivol slightly breaking down rounds 11-12 but even then Bivol held composure and was never in “trouble”, but any other opponent Beterbiev would have KO'd by now. Had it been 15 rounds of boxing. Maybe Beterbiev would be the obvious and clear winner by KO or even stoppage, or even points.

Beterbiev (39) strategy : hit and keep pressing. Bivol (33) strategy : land the jab and run, and jab again. Bivol landed a light jab and it looked like Artur only had a small scratch on his face.
