I'm in the Longhorn Band, but I marched like this in high school, and just so you know, the music they play is considered by many to be the most respected in terms of traditions and musicianship. This is how most bands used to march, and the way most bands march today is a "modernization" of traditional marching styles. I applaud the Aggie band for continuing these traditions, even if it sacrifices the "enjoy" factor for most modern generations. Marches are played to inspire, not to entertain

How refreshing to see a military style marching band. A lost art of a well executed marching band.

@TheMarching110Fan - the four way crossthru is usually done at the last home game - the routines usually get harder throughout the year as the freshmen have to master certain marching skills before putting it all together for this. If just one person screws up, the whole thing can fall apart quickly. As a former A&M bandsman, I can tell you that it happens in practice more than we care to admit.

I go to a high school in east texas where we are still complete traditional military style marching! yes i do enjoy core style bands but theres nothing like tradition precision marching! it is tradition! its something a lot of schools don't do anymore, and I'm proud to be a part of a school that keeps that tradition alive!!

I WENT to a high school like that. Also in East Texas.

@jbage007 its not playing the flute . . . its the fact that each week is a NEW drill, NEW music, and most of all another chance to show that The Noble Men of Kyle are still #1. Being in I band is on of the hardest things you can do in college. . . . you try it.
@txstar198414 жыл бұрын
There is nothing technical or uncomplicated about this bands perfomance or marching. Their marching style and the music they play derives from basic military marching and military marching songs. That whats make this band very unique. There is no other college marching band like the Aggie Fighting Band. They don't have to have an "old school" style of marching with high stepping and foot stomps. This band is the BEST in what they do and I fully support this band.

@1959VONCILE Aggies have a tremendous amount of pride re the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band...it is, after all, the PULSE of AGGIELAND. (Notice the stadium is FILLED at halftime!) Don't forget to attend Midnight Yell the night before the game and Step Off prior to the game. It would be the best money you ever spent. Gig 'Em Aggies!

Correction -- they march 6-5. To my tastes it is much more entertaining than all of these "corps-style" bands with their wavy, imprecise forms choreographed to atonal music. The Aggie Band is unique in that it does a different show every week. Also, it does it without music majors.
@ApolloITConsulting15 жыл бұрын
do you understand that the band is also part of the corps? you think a corps of cadets is gonna play "im on a boat" or gershwin rhapsody in blue? probly not. A&M sticks to otheir traditional cores and values including our traditional military style fight songs,songs etc.Ever heard the patton theme song? i would say thats pretty "musically entertaining"
@jbanks47j15 жыл бұрын
Yes I do. I have friends and family that attend A&M. I'm not an ignorant kid being rude. I know they are going to play traditional military songs, and I respect them for that. It is what they do and they do it well. I have heard the Patton theme song. It is a good song, but I'm entirely talking about their musical selections. They just don't play with enough musicality for my tastes. On a side not, I have seen them live and in the stands. The widespread use of flip folders didn't impress.

Bands at half-time are the biggest waste of time.I would pay extra to watch this band ,though.They actually get there fans excited ,instead of putting them to sleep.

They're great at what they do, but it's just 8-5 marching in straight lines..
@jbanks47j15 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying they are bad at all. Actually I very specifically said they are good. I just don't find what they do to be musically entertaining. They can march the hell out of the field all that they want, but I'm a musician, and to me the music should come before fancy marching in a musical performance.
@dalelmartin1973 Жыл бұрын
You are entitled to your opinion. As you have said, this is a military marching band. Their main emphasis is academic, ethical and military discipline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They eat, sleep, study, exercise and train in leadership methods for war first, and the music comes next. They are not trying to become a symphony orchestra on a football field..1 They play military marches as a result. Few people who are not familiar with this organization can fully appreciate what they really are all about. From Inside the Corps of Cadets, one can not fully explain it to an outsider.

@jbanks47j15 жыл бұрын
They have amazing skill, ability, and precision. On the other hand, they're incredibly boring. This is marching that belongs in a pre-game show, not halftime. That is just my opinion though.
